The Ondo State government has reiterated its commitment towards protecting the rights of the girl-child and women in the state.
The Special Adviser to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Gender Matters, Chief(Mrs) Olamide Falana in a statement personally signed by her on “The 16 Days Activism Against Gender-based Violence” stated that the state government has always promoted policies and programmes that enlighten the public on the negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and girls so as to mitigate the level of its impact.
“Ondo State government is glad to join the host of advocates globally in this very crucial campaign of 16 days activism Against Gender-Based Violence with the theme: UNITE “Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”.
“This awareness campaign which begins today, the 25th of November 2024, will span till the 10th of December, 2024.”
“In regards to the investment in women and the Girl-Child, the state has in the past few years placed significant priority to fight, protect and enlighten the public on the negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and girls so as to mitigate the level of its impact on the society at large.”
“The O’datiwa- led administration through the office of the Special Adviser on Gender Matters has put in place policies and partnered with several organisations to give young girls a sense of belonging and is willing to do more for the sole purpose of their mental and physical stability.”
“It is no gainsaying that Ondo State government has “Zero Tolerance” against Gender based Violence, which to this end has specifically put in place the Agency against Gender Based Violence in charge of the state response to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), whereby young girl and women are assured of security and legal services, likewise an effective VAPP Law to handle offenders as the case maybe.”
“As part of our progress report in the state, the recently concluded gubernatorial election witnessed zero record of any case on violence against the female gender. This positive and applaudable manifestation reflects the functionality of the system in place under Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration.”
‘The efforts of the State so far though impressive, is yet to be far-reaching, thus the need to further drive this compelling awareness not as a mere jamboree, but rather to serve as a lingering change for people to have a renewed orientation.”
The Special Adviser therefore reminded stakeholders of the significant roles girls and women play in the development of the society with emphasis that the Agency against Gender based Violence in the State is effective in ensuring rights of victims.
Falana urged those affected to speak out and use the toll free line 08001001010 to report cases for prompt action.
“Let us in our various corners encourage the notion that says NO to Gender based Violence and vices, while we open our minds to the bigger picture that caters to securing their security and wellbeing”, the Special Adviser added.
