Aiyedatiwa’s Appointments: Greatest Happiness for the Greatest Number By: Allen Sowore, Esq
On Friday, September 6th, Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, approved the appointments of 344 aides—28 Senior Special Assistants and 316 Special Assistants. Since the announcement, the media has been abuzz with mixed reactions. Those who made the list are celebrating, while others, still hoping for their chance, remain anxious.
A few individuals, including members of opposition political parties, have raised concerns over the number of appointees. Ironically, some of those now criticizing the governor for appointing many aides had previously accused him of running a one-man show. Such is human nature—”Kòsógbón Tolèdá.”
Some critics have gone so far as to label the appointees as “Tom, Dick, and Harry,” but they’re entitled to their opinions. Democracy, after all, guarantees the minority a voice, even as the majority prevails.
The truth is that the governor’s decision to approve this extensive list of appointments was a carefully considered move to strengthen governance, especially at the grassroots level. More importantly, it reflects the collective decision of key stakeholders in the state.
The appointments reflect the state’s geographical diversity, encompassing the 18 local government areas and 203 political wards.
One notable incident that adds to the credibility of the appointees is the case of Mr. Gbogi Emmanuel, who declined his appointment as Special Assistant, despite previously expressing his desire to serve as Chairman of the Transition Committee for Akoko South South LCDA. I must therefore commend and congratulate those who have gladly accepted to serve the people in any capacity. Aferall, it is a call to service.
In keeping with his commitment to an inclusive and efficient administration, Governor Aiyedatiwa is already making plans to appoint more competent, qualified, and dedicated individuals to serve in government agencies, boards, and parastatals.
The Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration is focused on delivering the greatest happiness to the greatest number of people in Ondo State.
