‘AJANAKU KOJÁ A MORI NKAN FÌRÍ ‘
By Comrade Allen Sowore Esq.
As Christmas approaches, while some well-intentioned food-sharing initiatives have turned into grim national incidents, an unusual and thoughtful leader emerges with a carefully planned package of impactful projects. Hon. Omo’ba Okunjimi Odimayo, a Member of the House of Representatives representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, has proven to be a true people’s advocate.
Odimayo, who serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Population in the Green Chamber, has consistently demonstrated his dedication to empowering his constituents through life-changing initiatives and infrastructure projects.
On December 21, 2024, a grand event at Anglican Primary School, Ode Irele, showcased Odimayo’s remarkable efforts. The gathering was attended by beneficiaries, political leaders at both state and national levels, and members of his constituency. At the event, Odimayo distributed 32 motorcycles (Okada), 3 tricycles, and disbursed ₦100,000 each to 290 bead-making trainees. Additionally, he provided rice and other food items to thousands of families, ensuring a joyful season for many.
Odimayo’s dedication to infrastructural development is equally commendable. Key projects inaugurated include:
A solar-powered modern medical laboratory and
New classrooms at Arerin Grammar School, Ode-Irele.
The spread of his initiatives across the two local government areas (LGAs)—Okitipupa and Irele—underscores his inclusive approach. Highlights include the establishment of a greenhouse farm in Okitipupa and the planned installation of 510 solar streetlights across the constituency. Streets listed for the light-up project include Mobareredele to Awotuhen, Obolo/Jolaolu, Araromi Road, and many others.
Odimayo has also facilitated the award of a five-kilometer feeder road project covering critical areas such as Olonade Street in Ode-Aye, Agbala Raphael Road in Ayeka/Igbodigo, and other important routes.
For sustainable access to clean water, a solar-powered borehole project has commenced at Liseri Camp, benefitting rural communities.
At every opportunity, Hon. Odimayo reiterates his commitment to delivering impactful projects. In his words, “My constituents have done their part by giving me their mandate, and it is my responsibility to fulfill my promises.”
Representing Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa was the Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Simidele Michael Odimayo, further highlighting the importance of the event.
The presence of Hon. Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde (Abena), Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission,( NDDC) added national significance to the event. Abegunde commended Odimayo for his exceptional leadership and described him as an “Omoluabi” who has exceeded expectations within two years.
The event was graced by traditional rulers, including:
HRM Oba Olorunsola Akinyelure (Odogbo of Omi)
HRM Oba Olumoyegun Oyedele (Oniju of Iju Odo)
HRM Oba Michael Akinfolarin (Larogbo of Akotogbo)
HRM Oba Thomas Adesayo (Ahaba of Ajagba)
Notable political figures also in attendance included Hon. Shadrack Olowojuni, Hon. (Barr.) Olusegun Ajimotokin, Chief Festus Mesewonrun, Chief Femi Moyegun, and several others.
To access Ese-Odo LGA, one must pass through Irele or Okitipupa. It is impossible to travel through these areas without noticing the transformative impact of Hon. Odimayo’s projects. This is why the Yoruba adage aptly states: “Ti aba ri erin kasope arerin, Ajanaku Kojá Mori Nkan Fìrí.”
Omo’ba Okunjimi Odimayo is a leader who embodies excellence and progress. He has made the platform-APC proud, and we wish him continued success. More power to his elbow!
