Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON, has called on citizens of the State and by extension Nigerians to join in the collective effort to mitigate the spread of corruption across every sector.
According to a statement signed by the Media Officer in the office of the SSG, Debbie Funmilayo, the Governor made the call at the commissioning of the office complex of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in Akure.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu noted that since the establishment of the ICPC in the year 2000, it had been at the fore in the drive to eliminate corruption and instill public trust in the society; purposely enforcing zero tolerance to corruption in Nigeria.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Akeredolu said the newly-built Office Complex is an insignia of government’s continued determination to combatting corrupt practices and building a culture of good governance in the County.
“The structure will further assist the Commission in it’s anti-corruption fight and make the Commission more accessible to the people to ensure justice prevails and aid security among our people”
“It is also necessary to emphasize the need to carryout more awareness campaigns, seminars and time-to-time interaction engagements of state and non-state actors that will drive anti-corruption policies”.
“Let me assure you that Ondo State will continue to provide necessary support for delivery of your mandate; It is the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship between our dear State and the Commission”
Earlier, the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye SAN, OFR, expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Ondo State for the generous support,
in providing the land and enabling regulatory environment for the ICPC being the foremost Anti-Corruption Agency which has three-pronged mandates: enforcement, prevention/education and mobilization of Nigerians on the ills
of and against corruption.
“When the fourth Board of the Commission decided in 2021 to increase state offices
one per geopolitical zone, and to build prototype state office in each of them,
Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, CON, was the first to graciously
approve the allocation of this centrally located plot to the Commission in 2021”.
Highlighting the importance of the edifice, Prof. Owasanoye said “It is representative of the support and complementary worthy effort of the Ondo State government to fight corruption, promote accountability and transparency in governance; build a culture of integrity among the citizenry being the hallmarks of the character of the Governor, the government and the people of Ondo state. We look forward to this continuing support”. He said.
