AKURE COMMUNITY LANDLORDS RESORT TO SELF-HELP TO FIX ROAD PROJECT
Members of the Alagbaka Extension Phase 2 Landlords Association in Akure the Ondo State capital have embarked on fund raising among themselves to fix their road project abandoned by contractors.
The road project was awarded when Late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was at the helm of affairs.
The contractors moved to site and began to work on the project as they had been financially mobilised to make the project a reality.
The project runs through the Police Headquarters to Crest FM station to the main road linking the estate.
For close to 11 months now, the contractors had abandoned the project despite having been reportedly paid by the state government.
In December last year when Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa assumed leadership in the state, he ordered all the contractors handling road projects across the state to return to site.
While most of them returned, a few including the contractors handling Alagbaka Extension Phase 2 roads did not return to sites.
This development has made the Landlords Association embarked on contributions among themselves to ensure that the road is given attention.
According to a post circulated among members on the internal social media platform and accessed by Naijaparrots, each Landlord is expected to pay a minimum of #10,000.
The Chairman of the Landlords Association, Hon. Fred Ojo said the people could no longer wait for government as the state of the road is taking toll on the vehicles as well as socio-economic existence of the residents.
“The road committee has looked into the issue of our very deplorable roads, and more so by popular demand of a large number of landlords and residents and have come to the same conclusion, that we all have come into, over time, on possible palliative measures to relieve us of the burden of excessively bad road.”
“The toll on our vehicles and by extension, our pockets is a very large one.
The community as a whole, has taken a decision to grade all the roads of the community with no exception.”
“This is without prejudice to whatever Government may be planning to do and entirely because it is us suffering from the bad roads, it’s our vehicles that are spoiling on account of the terrible roads.”
“This is however to take place when the rains subside (say in like a week or two in November), so we don’t fall into worse problems.”
Since the announcement was made, over 75 landlords have responded to the call as many even paid more than the #10,000.
The residents have also commended the bold step taken by the leadership of the community in ameliorating the challenges facing the people.
It is expected that the present mobility challenges being faced by the people would become a thing of the past when the intervention is carried out.
