AKURE PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT DISOWNS APC ENDORSEMENT BY FACTIONAL LEADERS
The Akure Progressive Movement (APM) under the leadership of Hon. Afolabi Akinbowale, former Chairman of Akure South Local Government, has taken note of a press statement issued by a group claiming to represent leaders of Akure South, purportedly endorsing aspirants for the House of Representatives and the House of Assembly.
The group, reportedly led by Mr. Tony Alla and a few others, claims to be speaking on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
We wish to categorically debunk and reject this claim in its entirety.
The Akure Progressive Movement affirms that the authentic and widely recognized leadership of the APC in Akure South resides with credible, longstanding and respected party stalwarts.
These include Dr. Samuel Bankole Akerele, Chairman of the Elders Council; Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, former Deputy Governor; Asiwaju Sunday Abegunde, Executive Director, Corporate Services, NDDC; Prof. Olu Aderounmu; Basorun Ifadayo Adedipe, SAN; Engr. Oluwamuyiwa Ogunleye, former Member of the House of Representatives; Hon. Afe Olowookere, former Member of the House of Representatives; Arch. Jide Adejuyigbe, former Local Government Chairman; and Hon. Sir Ademola Adegoroye, former Minister of State for Transport, among other distinguished leaders.
For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. S. B. Akerele remains the recognized leader of the APC in Akure South. Any contrary claim is misleading and should be disregarded by party members and the general public.
We therefore dissociate ourselves completely from the actions and statements of Mr. Tony Alla’s group. The said group lacks legitimacy, structure and the political standing required to speak for or endorse aspirants on behalf of the APC in Akure South. Its members are largely unknown within the established political framework of Akure.
We strongly caution Mr. Alla and his associates to desist from parading themselves as leaders or elders of Akure South. Such conduct is not only deceptive but also capable of undermining the unity and integrity of our political community. Their persistent attempts to discredit representatives of our people in Abuja are equally condemnable and must cease forthwith.
The good people of Akure are discerning and well aware of those who genuinely represent their interests. We urge the public and party faithful to remain vigilant and not be misled by self-appointed actors pursuing questionable agendas.
Signed:
Hon. Afolabi Akinbowale
Leader, Akure Progressive Movement
