Amotekun Commander: It’s a Pat on the Back to Do More
By Comrade Allen Sowore, Esq
There is hope on the horizon—soft, steady, and persistent—like a silver lining that refuses to fade from the morning sky. Hope is not merely proclaimed; it is nurtured within us, a quiet conviction that Nigeria will flourish again in our lifetime.
As the nation continues to confront the storms unleashed by Boko Haram, bandits, kidnappers, and other dark forces, Nigeria has refused to bow to fear. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is bracing up, and governors across the federation are taking a cue.
Under the steady and purposeful leadership of Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, security has become more than policy—it has become a promise.
And on Monday, 1st December 2025, that promise took shape once again.
The commissioning of the new Command and Control Centre and the Training Auditorium at the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, was far more than an event; it was a reaffirmation—a solemn oath that the Sunshine State will not surrender its peace to the shadows.
I arrived early, alongside my colleagues, Fade Ojamomi, Esq., and Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore. From the first note of the Amotekun Brigade Band to the final handshake, the ceremony radiated purpose, precision, and pride.
Yet beyond the music and pageantry, one thing glowed like a golden thread:
the rare harmony among all security agencies.
The agile and astute Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal; the steadfast NSCDC Commandant, Oluyemi Ibiloye; the calm, perceptive DSS Director, Samaila Sagiru; and other service chiefs spoke with one voice—each affirming Governor Aiyedatiwa’s unwavering commitment to the safety of the people he serves.
And they did not stop there.
They extolled the leadership of Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye—a man whose courage, clarity, and consistency have shaped the soul and success of Amotekun.
When Commander Adeleye mounted the stage, he journeyed through memory, recounting the Corps’ evolution from 2020 to this defining moment. He reminded us that when security is rooted in local realities and backed by political will, chaos can indeed be transformed into calm.
He honoured the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN,CON—the architect of the South-West’s security renaissance—before naming Governor Aiyedatiwa “The Father of Modern-Day Amotekun.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his reflections, spoke of the changing face of security—the increasing need for technology, discipline, and knowledge. The new training auditorium, he noted, will not only build strength but also sharpen minds.
With tenderness and resolve, he paid tribute to the Pathfinder, the late Akeredolu, whose boldness lit the torch that Amotekun continues to carry.
Against mischievous insinuations that the welfare of Amotekun personnel is neglected, the Commander clarified that the harmonized salary structure places Ondo State among the highest-paying in the South-West.
Then came the moment that echoed like a drumbeat across the hall—the Governor’s unequivocal pledge to his Commander.
His words were simple, powerful, and unambiguous:
“The Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, goes nowhere!”
It was more than an endorsement; it was a salute.
A salute to sleepless nights on rugged terrains.
A salute to countless rescues of kidnap victims.
A salute to a mind that has wrestled with danger to keep others safe.
In those words, a timeless truth shone through:
Whatever a man sows, that he shall reap.
For Akogun Adetunji Adeleye and all the gallant officers and men of the corps, this is a harvest of honour—
a warm, well-deserved pat on the back. And to whom much is given, much is expected.
