Anarchy looms in Benue as sacked APC chairman announces forceful return
***Suspected thugs threaten to burn Kwande police stations
There are palpable fears across Benue state as the sacked State chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Austin Agada and members of his dissolved Excos have finalized plans to forcefully take over the Tinubu House State Secretariat of the party located on JS Tarka Way in Makurdi.
A statement by the former party chairman, Austin Agada on Wednesday said that the dissolved Excos were resuming duties at the old state Secretariat on High-level in Makurdi this weekend, a plan that would leave the party with two parallel Secretariats in Benue state.
However, another press statement emerged from the immediate past State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Dan-Morgan Ihomun late Thursday night where he invited all the sacked local government executive committee of the party in Benue state as well as members of the Senator George Akume’s faction of the party to attend what observers have described as a forceful take over of the authentic party secretariat on JS Tarka Way in Makurdi.
Meanwhile, the Benue Defenders, an independent security network in the state this afternoon told journalists that the latest twist in the venue of the meeting was borne out of an advice by the embattled Chief Judge of the state, Justice Maurice Ikpambese who said that the ongoing local government elections cases in Abuja could only be ruled in favour of the dissolved Excos only if they can take over the authentic state Secretariat for them to be the only recognized state executive officers.
The group said: “Maurice Ikpambese’s representatives met with members of the National Assembly Caucus and the federal appointees from Benue state at the Maitama residence Senator George Akume with the likes of Pius Akutah and Matthias Byuan in attendance. At the meeting, the CJ’s men urged the so-called stakeholders to get heavy security to be used to drive away members of the Benjamin Omale-led Unity Caretaker Committee out of the state Secretariat of the party during the illegal assumption of duties of Agada and his men tomorrow.
“They have also finalized plans with the National Chairman of the APC, Umar Ganduje to immediately recognize Agada and his men as the real members of the State Executive Council of Benue APC once they succeed in the forceful take over of the Secretariat where the already recognized Omale-led Unity Caretaker Committee operates from.
“We are also aware of plans by the stakeholders to use Dan-Morgan Ihomun and Chief John Akpareshi to coordinate thugs to start burning police stations in Kwande local government prior to the planned forceful takeover of the Secretariat of the party just to make the state look unsafe like it was done in Rivers State.
“Presently, more than five trucks of heavily armed security operatives have arrived Makurdi, the state capital of Benue state in preparation towards the planned forceful takeover of Omale’s position from him by the sacked State chairman, Austin Agada and his men”
