Appointing a Competent Leader as Chairman, Board of the Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities in Ondo State for Achieving Optimal Outcomes.
As we continue to advocate for and support individuals with disabilities, the need for a strong, qualified and competent leader to steer the agency for the welfare of Persons with disabilities in Ondo State has never been more critical.
For the success of any disability service organization like the Agency, it is essential to appoint a person who not only understands the intricacies of disability rights and needs but also has exceptional leadership qualities and a deep commitment to advancing inclusive policies and practices.
The disability community in our dear Sunshine State deserves a leader who is not only compassionate but also highly skilled in navigating the complex landscape of disability services, regulations, and advocacy.
The right person at the helm will ensure that the agency effectively responds to the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities, promoting accessibility, independence, driving the process of enacting a globally acceptable Disability Law, and also advocating for its implementations in all ramifications to protect human rights and dignity of all persons with disabilities.
A well-qualified leader will foster innovation, collaborate with stakeholders, and make decisions grounded in empathy and evidence-based practices.
Moreover, they will ensure that resources are allocated efficiently, staff is adequately trained, and services are delivered with the utmost respect for the rights of individuals with disabilities.
We are using this medium to passionately appeal to the State Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to give the disability community an opportunity to have inputs in the nomination a very competent member of the community who can perform to expectations and make positive impact in line with the OUR EASE agenda of the present administration and we plead that the governor should consider the following qualifications when appointing the Board Chairman of the disability-focused agency:
⦁ Experience and Expertise: A deep understanding of disability rights, policies, and advocacy, with a proven track record of success in the field and someone with good knowledge of partnership drive for development. The ideal person should have extensive knowledge and experience in disability advocacy.
⦁ Leadership Skills: The ability to inspire, motivate, and manage a team, while creating a culture of inclusivity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
⦁ Understanding of Disability Issues : A deep understanding of the challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities and a commitment to proferring workable solutions in solving them.
⦁ Commitment to Collaboration: A leader who values collaboration or partnerships with individuals with disabilities, their families, service providers, and advocacy groups, donor agencies and other developing partners globally in a bid at achieving desired targets.
⦁ Visionary Approach: A strategic thinker who will drive both short or long-term positive change for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that services meet evolving needs and expectations, creating jobs or formulate policies that could bring about income generating activities for persons with disabilities.
⦁ Integrity and Advocacy: A person of high ethical standards who is committed to promoting the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities, both locally and nationally.
Why do we desire a competent Board Chairman?
⦁ Effective Policy Implementation: A competent leader at the agency will ensure the effective implementation of policies and programs that will benefit persons with disabilities.
⦁ Increased Funding Opportunities: A well-led agency is more likely to attract funding and resources to support its initiatives or targeted goals.
⦁ Improved Stakeholder Engagement: A competent leader will foster strong relationships with various stakeholders, including government agencies, the media, civil society organizations, and the private sectors for development in line with goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
In conclusion, the appointment of a competent, dedicated leader, resourceful Board Chairman will not only enhance the effectiveness of disability services but will also have a profound, lasting impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities.
A well-run agency will ensure that individuals have access to the support they need, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives in society and at the end promoting an all inclusive society free of all forms of discrimination.
Let us unite in pushing for leadership that will bring about positive change with holistic approaches and meaningful results for individuals with disabilities.
The future of the disability community in Ondo State depends on the level of competency of the head of the Agency for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
