
BOOK ON CHALLENGES, SOLUTIONS TO LG ADMINISTRATION IN NIGERIA FOR UNVEILING IN LAGOS
All is now set for the public presentation and launching of an interesting and educative book which identifies and unveils the solutions to myriads of challenges and difficulties hampering the smooth administration of Local Governments in Nigeria.
The book which has 315 pages is written by a retiring Council Legal Officer in Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Barrister Abel Bello.
It will be presented to the members of the public and launched on Wednesday May 14, 2025 at Alinco African Events Centre, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road, beside Ojokoro LCDA Secretariat, Ijaiye, Lagos.
According to a statement released by the Secretary to the Committee handling the book launch, Pastor Emmanuel Shoyombo which was made available to Journalists at the weekend, the event is part of the retirement ceremonies of the Author having attained the statutory year of retirement from the service of Lagos State Government.
Titled “DOING YOUR BIT MAY MATTER” the voluminous book contains detailed administrative bottlenecks and loopholes hindering the effective and efficient running of the third tier of government thereby denying Nigerians especially those at the grassroots of the basic dividends of democracy.
To remove the nation’s councils from its current trap, the Author suggested the need for constitutional amendments in relation to local government administration.
In addition, Bello called for a setting up of Committees and Commissions to carry out specific functions towards the realization of Council’s constitutional duties as the closest government to the people where they live, work and play.
Until the three tiers of government relate harmoniously while maintaining the principles of checks and balances, Bello was of the opinion that the dream of achieving socio-economic and political development in the country will remains a mirage.
He praised the Lagos State Government for the establishment of Citizens Mediation Centres (CMC) which he said has been curbing the ills and harms of delay justice in the state.
The Author called on the State Government to drastically overhaul its Court Rules without violating the fundamental rights of the citizens seeking justice in the law courts.
Having emphasized the need for public Servants to to carry out their duties in the best of their abilities so as to leave the stage better than they met it, Bello enjoined political office holders to strive to alleviate the sufferings of the masses who entrusted them with the power to represent and rule by fulfilling their electioneering campaign promises.
He charged citizens to take possession of the government’s developmental projects sited in their communities and safeguard same against vandals.
