In his words, “as we all know, great institutions are not built by chance. They are built first, by the vision of the founding fathers, and then by the sacrifice and the collective effort of people like us — alumni, friends, and stakeholders — who refuse to sit back and watch but choose to invest in the future.
That is why we are here today”.
“Today is not just another ceremony. It is a milestone in the journey of a department that has, for 55 years, stood as a beacon of academic excellence, innovation, and national development in Nigeria and beyond”.
“The Department of Chemical Engineering at OAU has produced generations of engineers, researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs — many of whom have contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria’s oil & gas sector, manufacturing, academia, and other critical sectors of our economy”.
Adegbulugbe who heads the company that built the first indigenous onshore crude oil terminal in Nigeria said the N5 Billion Endowment Fund being launched was not just about raising money but a step towards securing the future of the great department.
“It is about ensuring that generations yet unborn will find a Chemical Engineering department equipped with world-class facilities, cutting-edge research laboratories, motivated faculty, and students empowered to compete on a global stage”, the energy expert said.
“Similarly, the book we are launching today is a testament to the legacy, the achievements, and the vision of this department. It is a story of resilience, of excellence, and of dreams that have translated into real impact in our society”.
Professor Adegbulugbe commended the vision of the Convenor of the event, Engr (Dr) Femi Bajomo of Class 1977, the leadership of the university, the department, the anniversary planning committee, and all stakeholders for their foresight in making the event a reality.
“But beyond commendation, I want to challenge every one of us here—especially the department’s alumni and friends—to see ourselves as partners in building a lasting legacy”, Adegbulugbe stated.
“Let us generously support the Endowment Fund. Let us sow into the future. Let us honor those who came before us and invest in those coming after us”.
“Together, we can ensure that the Department of Chemical Engineering, OAU, not only maintains its proud legacy but rises to even greater heights — contributing solutions to Nigeria’s challenges and making global impact”, Professor Adegbulugbe added.
