(Full Statement)
The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA), whose members are smallholder cocoa farmers, cooperatives, organizations and cocoa farmers affiliates Associations bodies that cut across the cocoa origin countries in Africa have conceptualized and formed this body to represent our interests and voice of the cocoa farmers in the African continent through a united front.
The formation of this big umbrella body for the Africa cocoa farmers was also in response to the demands by stakeholders around the world that Africa cocoa farmers that contribute about 70% of global cocoa production should be at the forefront of protecting the interests of her vulnerable smallholder cocoa farmers population across Africa, whose livelihoods would be affected most if sustainable challenges are not well handled or other sustainability proposed solutions have no livelihoods support mechanisms that protect our overall interests in Africa.
It is a fact that 90% of our cocoa farmers and Association members that COFAAA will be representing across cocoa origin countries in Africa are already facing poor living incomes and poor infrastructures across many of our cocoa communities.
This does not disprove whatever government of individual cocoa origin countries in Africa doing to alleviate poverty and put in infrastructures in many cocoa producing communities and support their producers.
However, their interventions have been infinitesimal to the needs of each regions where funding have played a major constraint to planning and development, hence the need for collaboration , support and one voice through COFAAA whose collaboration on the issue of pricing, living incomes, livelihoods, sustainability and good governance to support the growth of the cocoa economy in Africa region, more especially on EUDR implementation in our regions that hold the highest stake in the global cocoa economy investment.
Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa {COFAAA} will be supporting members and affiliate bodies on cocoa investments, sustainability and networking across the cocoa origins in Africa with the following aims and objectives;
• Strengthening Research and Development to advance better production, productivity, climate resilience and adaptation.
• Coordinate and strengthen Africa cocoa farmers along community based cooperative in order to encourage communities’ best practices.

• Support our cocoa farmers through the provision of subsidized quality inputs and facilitate soft loan to enhance sustainable cocoa production in collaboration with relevant global partners, stakeholders and home governments.
• Provision of technical support with technological innovations in the cocoa value chain and sharing of sustainable practices amongst the cocoa farmers in the implementation of EUDR via note comparing etc.
• Exchange of Ideas in combating climate change, mitigation, resilience and adaptation.
• Collaborating with all governments of cocoa origin countries in Africa in their efforts to support their cocoa farmers livelihoods.
• Partnering with CBOs, NGO’s , Agencies, Parastatals, Organizations, Associations, cocoa companies, communities etc to promote and develop a sustainable cocoa global plan where the protection and sustenance of our ecosystem takes the centre stage of our cocoa activities.
