COFAAA COMMENDS PROPCOM+ FOR SUPPORTING NIGERIA’S NATIONAL COCOA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
…As Delegation Arrives Abidjan On A Study Tour Of Cote D’Ivoire
The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA) has commended Propcom+for its unwavering support towards strengthening Nigeria’s National Cocoa ManagementCommittee (NCMC), other Africa’s cocoa industry institutions and players through promoting sustainable cocoa production across the continent in a bid to enhance cocoa farmers’ livelihoods.
In a significant move to boost the capacity of Nigeria’s NCMC and strengthening her impact in the Nigeria cocoa ecosystem, Propcom+ is supporting the Nigeria National Cocoa Management Committee (NCMC) on a study tour to Côte d’Ivoire – the world’s leading cocoa producer.
The purpose of the tour is to enable the Nigerian delegation to learn from the country’s remarkable success in cocoa governance, sustainability, value-chain development over the last decade and their approach to EUDR domestication.
During the study visit, the delegation is engaging with key institutions and players such as the Conseil du Cafe Cacao (CCC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ivorian Chocolate Company, and Cocoa cooperative farms to gain firsthand insights into best practices in cocoa governance, farmer empowerment, cooperative efficiency, and sustainable practices.
According to Comrade Adeola Adegoke, the Global President of COFAAA, this collaboration represents a critical milestone in repositioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global cocoa market.
“This study tour will strengthen the operational capacity of NCMC and inspire practical strategies for Nigeria’s cocoa sector to thrive sustainability”.
According to a statement made public by COFAAA Media Team, Currently, Côte d’Ivoire contributes the largest share of the world’s cocoa production, accounting for 45% significant portion out of the Africa’s 70% cocoa global output.
Nigeria’s renewed commitment to adopting successful models from Cote d’Ivoire is expected to help increase Africa’s cocoa production capacity from 70% to 80% within the next five years, a development that could greatly improve the continent’s economic stability, farmers’ livelihoods and put a stop to the subterranean strategy of shifting Africa’s cocoa production
The Nigerian delegation included: Comrade Adeola Adegoke- National President, Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN) and Global President Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA); Mr. Ajayi Olutobaba – National Cocoa Desk Officer and Secretary, National Cocoa Management Committee; Mr. Benedict Etegbe – Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC); Mr. Omolakin Anthony – Administrative Secretary, Ondo State Cocoa Revolution Agency; Dr. Patrick Adebola – Former Executive Director, Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN); Mr. Ayo Akinola- Sustainability Expert; Mr. James Oyesola- Tree Crops Director, Ogun State; Mr. Williams Ifere – Cocoa Desk Officer, Cross River State;Senator Gbolahan Dada- Value-chain Representative and Otunba Felix Oladunjoye – National President, Cocoa Processors Association of Nigeria (COPAN).
COFAAA reaffirms its commitment to working with Propcom+, NCMC, and other stakeholders to build a sustainable and inclusive cocoa economy for Africa’s future.
