DEMOCRACY DAY:
FORMER EKITI REPS ASPIRANT, DELE PHILIPS URGES COLLABORATION TOWARDS SUSTAINING DEMOCRATIC RULE
A leader of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Dele Philips has urged Nigerians to continue to work towards sustaining the democratic process in the country.
The party leader who spoke in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Iyiola Adetola and made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti in commemoration of this year’s democracy day emphasized the importance of civil rule in ensuring human and societal development.
While acknowledging the various roles played by different Pro-democracy activists in the struggle to enthrone democratic rule, Philips said the task of sustaining civil rule is a collective task.
He reflected on the dark days of the military rule when there was no freedom and respect for human rights, analysing the level of criticisms that have been witnessed in the 25 years of return to democracy in the country.
The former House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 stressed that the stages of developments during the democracy is an encouragement for greater hope.
In his words, “though we might have not been where we should be, there is still hope for us as a nation. When we look back and reflect on the period of military regimes, we would agree that we are still not stagnant.”
“We should all brace up for the task of building our nation and support those in positions of authority to achieve the much required turnaround of the economy of our dear nation.”
Philips also commended former President Buhari for recognising late MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12 presidential election which was adjudged the freeest and fairest in the history of democracy in the country.
He used the occasion to acknowledge the various achievements being recorded by Governor Biodun Oyebanji since assumption of office, saying the records are testimonials that the people made the right choice.
