DISPLAY OF CULTURE AND TRADITION AS ILE-OLUJI DRUMMERS CELEBRATE ANNUAL ‘ODUN ONILU’
… Family members including Chief Lisa Jigan Akinnuoye, Kole Akinbolarin Gangan, others describe event as rallying point
It was a display of culture and tradition in Ile-Oluji as professional drummers in the town and environs celebrated 2026 ‘Odun Onilu’.
It is a celebration that is said to be as old as the ancient town where families of drummers and descendants from far and near come together to reflect on a profession that has shaped their lives and existence over the years.
The eve is celebrated a day before the main event when the drummers and their families would dance round the town.
The various drummers and their families gather at various family compounds and chosen venues for the celebrations.
At Surulere area of the town, family, friends and well-wishers of the Late Pa Akinbolarin Gangan gathered to celebrate the annual ‘Odun Onilu’.
There was much to eat and drink. It was also a kind of reunion of both families and friends.
There was ‘Aso Ebi’ to add value and comradeship to the event.
A member of the family and Son-in-law to Late Pa Akinbolarin Gangan, the Chief Lisa Jigan, John Akinnuoye and his wife Ayanfolaranmi Akinnuoye said the celebration remains a unifying factor and a rallying point for the family.
Chief Lisan Jigan was also a member of the house of assembly during the second republic.
Similarly, a prominent son of the dynasty, Mr. Kole Akinbolarin appreciated family, friends and well wishers for sustaining the legacy.
Akinbolarin popularly known as Kole Gangan had the opportunity to host the political class, considering his status as former Chairman of the local government as well as having served as a member of the board of OSOPADEC.
