DR. OLUSEGUN MIMIKO: A HUMAN MILICIA EXCELSA @ 70 By: Hon. Dayo Akinsoyinu
Mathama Ghandhi, made”Passive Resistance” the major plank on which his political thought rested. Kwame Nkrumah made “Positive Action”, the main thrust of his own ideology. The Great Avatar, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, left nobody in doubt, that the “Regime of Mental Magnitude”,was the centre piece of his Awoism.
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the Pathfinder of modern Ondo State, has made “Service to God and humanity”, the vortex of
his own political postulations.
Mimiko, a talented and exceptionally gifted specie of the Homo-sapien, posseses an encyclopaedic brain power: His extra sensory perception is very rare among people of his generation.
Mimiko, a man who is always committed to perfection, exerts himself both mentally and physically, in great proportions, in order to put smiles on the faces of his fellow human beings.
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, apart from being a charmingly handsome man, radiates irresistible aura of love, admiration, respect, adoration and awe.
Mimiko, a Medical Doctor by profession, a politician by calling and a social democrat by ideological inclination, is a Grandmaster of the art of politics and politicking:
He understands the intricate niceties of political power. This is ably complemented by his oratorical skill.
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is a quick-witted politician of unrivalled foresight. He is incredibly prescient.
In the course of his political career, in the service of mankind,he has been able to replace despair with hope, strife with love, confusion with stability, dire need with succour, and intellectual aridity with intellectual fecundity.
The sobriquet ‘Iroko’, was a well- thought out one by him, when he established his farm, which he called ‘Iroko farms’, ever before his adventure in government.
The ‘Iroko’ tree, apart from being a hard and tough wood, is regarded as a rare one, of spiritual, metaphysical and medicinal significance in the botanical family:It is the only tree, whose wood is accompanied to town, with palm leaf tendrils(mariwo). It is also believed that the tree is a comfortable abode for ghomids.
Also, the Iroko tree is reputed for longevity, of up to 500 years.Above all, Ayinla Omowura,
the late legendary Apala maestro, in one of his records says ‘ ero ni iroko n so ninu igbo’, which means the Iroko tree always bears antidotes/relief by way of seedlings.
Relating all the attributes listed above to our man of destiny, Dr.Olusegun Mimiko, is a man of many parts. He is a man of great conviction. He is indeed a tough and hard person, when it comes to advocacy in favour of the masses. His passion for ‘the woman’ and ‘the child’ is uncommon.
No wonder, he always laments, each time he gets to the medical village established by his government along Laje Road, Ondo. The lamentations always come from the decadence, into which the facility has been plunged, no thanks to government(s) that came after his’.
In sharp contrast to Mimiko’s tough and hard stance, on the political turf, he is a very loving husband and caring father, on the home front.
Mimiko’s favorite quotation, especially when charging the youths, on the need for them to take their destiny in there own hands,is always taken from Frantz Fanon’s ‘The Wretched of The Earth’ which reads:
From relative obscurity,
every generation shall
discover its mission, and will either fulfill it or betray it.
Iroko actually discovered his own mission in politics in Ondo State and successfully fulfilled it to mankind, but reversed substantially by forces of reaction.
It is on this note that I congratulate the Great Iroko on his 70th birthday, as he is determined, more than ever before, to bring back the good old days in Ondo State, through the enthronement of a People’s Democratic Party led government, in Alagbaka, come 16th November, 2024.
Happy Birthday sir.
