A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr. Dele Philips has called on eligible voters to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise as it winds down.
The party leader emphasized that all those who had registered in the past and had not collected their Permanent Voter Cards(PVC) should do so to enable them be part of electoral process in the 2023 general elections.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Iyiola Oluborode, the party leader stressed that the PVC remains the only tool and weapon that could give them a voice in the selection of the next generation of leaders at various levels.
The Chieftain who is the founder of Dele Philips Foundation said the continued voter registration exercise is a great opportunity for those who are yet to be registered to be captured.
Mr. Dele Philips expressed confidence in the level of improvement being recorded by the Independent National Electoral Commission, especially as displayed in the last governoship election in the state.
He stressed that political participation should not be left for a section of the society as emergence of leaders at all levels should be a collective task.
This, the party leader said would facilitate involvement that could equip them with the required knowledge, especially when questions are to be asked on how they are being represented in various offices.
While lamenting that over three hundred thousand PVCs are yet to be collected, Dele Philips however commended the response of women as over seventy percent of those who registered had collected their PVCs.
The APC chieftain warned against double or multiple registration, stating that such would be detected as witnessed in the last governoship election in Ekiti State and also urged INEC to increase its schedule for registration to ensure that more eligible voters are attended to within the extended period for the exercise.
