The alumni of Emmanuel Anglican Primary School, Ado-Ekiti have joined the global community to felicitate one of them and a legal icon, school proprietor, community leader and philanthropist, Aare Afe Babalola on the occasion of his birthday.
According to a statement by the old students of the primary school founded over 125 years ago, the “great Emmanuelite has contributed meaningfully to the socio-economic and political development of Ekiti State, Nigeria and the global community in general”.
The statement jointly signed by members of the Coordinating Committee, Revd. Dr. Kiitan Olaoba, Mr. Seun Adetola, Dr. Sanmi Aina, Rotn. Wunmi Tàiwo-Aluko, Mrs. Toyin Oduola and Arch. Dele Onibudo described Aare Afe Babalola as a great pillar of human and societal development in the country and beyond.
The statement states that “Emmanuel Anglican Primary School, Ado-Ekiti remains the only formal school attended by Baba, while he was also able to bag other thirteen degrees reading from home” and this explains why we adore him, more so he has been a great ambassador of Ekiti people, Nigeria and Africa”.
It emphasized how Aare Afe Babalola had always shown interest in the activities of the Alumni Association, especially at the 120th Founder’s Day held about five years before and also put on record his commited to upgrading of facilities in the school.
“Apart from being an outstanding legal practitioner, Aare Afe Babalola’s intervention in rescuing the lost glory of the country in the education sector has become a reference point with provision of world-class teaching and learning environment as well as qualified personnel”.
“Our great alumnus has equally provided an unusual intervention in the health sector with the establishment of a world-class teaching hospital that has not only reduced medical tourism but has played significant roles in checking brain-drain in the sensitive sector”, the statement stressed.
The Alumni Association commended Aare Babalola’s giant strides in the fields of education, medicine, agriculture and law and saluted his visionary leadership, patriotism and generosity of spirit.
“We pray that God in his infinite mercy will keep presiding over his affairs and also keep honouring him with good health and the required strength to continue to contribute his quota to the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria in general”, the statement added.
