FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROMISES CAREER FULFILMENT FOR PUBLIC SERVANTS
….as Labour tasks government on welfare packages
The Head of Civil Service of the Federation , Mrs Didi Esther Wilson-Jack OON mni has re-affirmed the determination of the Federal Government to make Public Servants fulfill their career attainment in order to improve their productivity index in the service delivery to the populace
She made the affirmation during a courtesy visit paid to her office on Friday 7th February 2025,
by the National leadership of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) led by the National President Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday who is also the National Vice President Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)
According to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, she opined that her determination is to ensure that workers have conducive atmosphere to work without any hinderance both in the work place and their career progression so that they will continue to help drive the policy of government in terms of formulation and implementation of these policies.
She disclosed that so many lofty government policies and programmes are in the pipeline that will transform and uplift public servants well being and move the public service as an to greater heights, some of these programmes will soon begin to manifest for the benefit of all stakeholders.
The Head of Civil Service of the Federation therefore appreciated the National leadership of Union for the visit and further called on them to help encourage Public Servants to remain loyal and committed to their duties at all time .
Earlier , the National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union has congratulated the Head of Civil Service of the Federation on her 100 days in office which was celebrated in the last quarter of last year but due to crowded schedule of assignments of her esteemed office the National leadership found it necessary to pay her exalted office the courtesy visit this year.
According to the National President, “The visit of the National leadership of the Nigeria Civil Service Union today is a manifestation of a long time loyalty and synergy of the Union with the Public Service as an institution which has continue to provide the wherewithal to the effectiveness and efficiency to the implementation of government policies for optimal service delivery to the populace.
“The Nigeria Civil Service Union NCSU being the oldest Union in Public Service sector; established on 19th August,1912 has not deviated from the vision and mission of the founding fathers, rather , successive leaders have continued to consolidate to ensure that workers’ welfare are not subjugated. ”
It is on the strength of the above, that our courtesy visit of today is very significant because we are here to identify with the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation on her various long lasting reforms in the Public Service and innovations that will stand the test of time, which she has been able to achieve within 100 days in office..
Equally, to show that as critical stakeholder in the Public Service reform project, the National leadership of the Union have done scientific evaluation of her performance and found out the Head of the Civil service of the Federation has performed creditably well, within 100 days in office, hence, we are presenting to her an award as “THE MOST INNOVATIVE HEAD OF THE CIVIL SERVICE OF THE FEDERATION IN RECENT TIME” to the glory of God and benefit of mankind.
This Award is primarily presented not only to encourage her but also to imprint an indelible legacy of history which has characterised her career in the Public Service over the years.
To this end, as Trade Union, we will continue to advocate for better welfare of workers, hence, the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation should continue to partner with the unions so as to fill any perceivable communication-gap that may want to cause, industrial disharmony, welfare challenges and
career stagnation.
We will use this opportunity to solicit for the intervention of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation
to consider the Graduates among the Executive officer’s cadre that have stagnated on Grade level 14 for over ten (10) years , elongate them to Grade level 15 to give room for career progression and fulfilment which will further encourage them to perform optimally.
The National President pointed out that there were discrepancies
in the salaries of January 2025 paid to Federal Public Servants which showed that not less than three components were removed, hence, these anomalies should be rectified in order to nip in the bud any industrial rumpus.
In the same vein, the staff welfare bus; primarily provided to ease the movement of workers to their workplaces are no more adequate, Federal Government should increase the buses so as to cushion the transportation problem being faced everyday by workers both in the Federal Capital Territory and across the nation .
“We want to assure our amiable and progressive minded Head of Civil Service of the Federation that industrial harmony will be our watchword but there must be no room for mutual mistrust and suspicion in the Public Service whenever there is collective Bargaining engagement.”
On this note, we want to appreciate the Head of Civil Service of the Federation for giving us this golden opportunity to pay her the courtesy visit as well as thank all the permanent Secretaries working in synergy with her office, God will continue to sustain us and our families as we continue to serve the nation.
