
FG AIMS FOR GREATER INCLUSION IN EU FUNDING PROGRAMS FOR KNOWLEDGE INNOVATION

The Federal Government has aimed for greater inclusion of its public research institutes in European Union funding programs to foster knowledge exchange and innovation.
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji spoke while playing host to the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS in his office in Abuja.
The Minister stated that the Ministry is committed to driving Nigeria’s transition to a knowledge-based economy through science and technology.
In his words, “your visit underscores the strong partnership between Nigeria and the EU in research, innovation, and technological advancement”.
“Our Ministry is committed to driving Nigeria’s transition to a knowledge-based economy through science and technology”.
“In this regard, I wish to highlight key areas where deeper collaboration with the EU can be mutually beneficial”, the Minister noted.
“Nigeria seeks to strengthen technology transfer and commercialization, ensuring that research is translated into industrial applications”.
“We also aim for greater inclusion of our public research institutes in EU funding programs to foster knowledge exchange and innovation”.
“The existing bilateral agreement on Science, Technology, and Innovation provides a structured framework for cooperation”.
“We seek to enhance its implementation to promote joint research, knowledge-sharing, and investment in priority technological areas”.
“To improve policy coordination, we welcome EU technical assistance for our Interministerial Committee on Research & Innovation”.
“Additionally, we seek support for conducting an STI indicators survey and a technology foresight programme to guide our scientific and industrial advancements”.
“As part of our clean energy agenda, we are keen on EU collaboration in Green Hydrogen and Green Methanol projects”.
He said “these initiatives align with global carbon reduction efforts and will accelerate Nigeria’s energy transition”.
“Furthermore, we seek partnerships for establishing Innovation Hubs across Nigeria to support startups, research-driven entrepreneurship, and job creation”, the Minister stressed.
“Today’s meeting is an opportunity to deepen our cooperation for mutual progress. I look forward to productive discussions and reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with the EU in advancing our scientific and technological ambitions”, Chief Nnaji added.
