FIRST LADY, OLUREMI TINUBU EMPOWERS ANOTHER 500 ONDO WOMEN
…Beneficiaries went home with deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators and grinding machines
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has empowered another set of 500 women in Ondo State through the Renewed Hope Initiative Support Scheme.
This development was carried out in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Oorelope-Adefulire.
This comes a few weeks after the First Lady empowered 500 women in the state with a grant of ₦50,000 each under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa who represented Mrs Oluremi Tinubu distributed the empowerment items which included deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators and grinding machines in Akure, the state capital.
She explained that the scheme was designed to support the businesses of 500 women in the state, putting them on the path of self-reliance and financial independence.
“This initiative will benefit 18,500 women across the six geo-political zones of the country.
Recognising the critical roles women play in society, this initiative will empower women across Nigeria, reduce poverty, and contribute to the nation’s growth.
“We will follow up to ensure that these items are utilised. Please, don’t sell them,” Mrs Aiyedatiwa cautioned.
She further described the programme as a steadfast commitment to economic empowerment and entrepreneurship promotion, noting that it represents a significant stride in building a more inclusive and progressive society.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mrs Adejoke Adefulure, represented by Dr Ifeyinwa Nnamchi-Ukaegbu, Head of Conditional Grant to States said the initiative was a bold and timely stride to economically empower women across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“This programme is meant to empower Nigerian women to be self-reliant, economically buoyant, and no longer poor. I can see the joy on the faces of the beneficiaries. I express my profound appreciation to Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of women across Nigeria,” Oorelope-Adefulire said.
She added that the Renewed Hope Initiative continues to serve as a beacon of empowerment and economic transformation, aligning seamlessly with Nigeria’s development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“This programme is not just about distributing items, but about unlocking potential, fostering economic independence, and creating opportunities for women’s dreams to thrive.
“The Office of the SSA to the President on SDGs remains resolute in its commitment to women’s empowerment as a key driver of sustainable development. This initiative directly aligns with Goal 1 of the SDGs.
“When a woman is empowered, a home is built, a community is strengthened, and a nation prospers,” she added.
Earlier in her remarks, the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Seun Osamaye, described the programme as a bold initiative that will make women in the state economically viable, independent and fulfilled.
“As the Renewed Hope Initiative coordinator in the state, I want to assure you that with this empowerment, poverty is a thing of the past for these 500 women,” she said.
Some of the beneficiaries, while expressing appreciation, described the gesture as unprecedented, noting that women at the grassroots are now directly benefiting from national opportunities in ways never experienced before.
