FORMER GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE, OCHIAGHA REAGAN UFOMBA URGES PDP TO EXPEL WIKE, ORTOM, MAKINDE, OTHERS
“…The damage they did was not just electoral, it was moral, strategic, and ideological as the G5’s betrayal cost PDP the presidency in 2023…”
A former Governorship candidate in Abia State, Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba has called for the expulsion of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, former Governors Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde over what he called anti-parry activities.
Ochiagha Ufomba who is currently the National Convener of ‘The Nigerian Project’ expressed concerns that continued membership of the party remains a major challenge for the party to make headway.
Ufomba, in a statement personally signed by him and titled “G5: EXPEL THEM NOW” called on the National leadership of the party to take bold step towards restoring the lost glory of the party
G5: EXPELL THEM NOW!
By Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba
As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues its journey to redemption and relevance, one malignant tumor must be addressed with urgency and surgical precision: the G5 Governors, now a cancerous faction bent on destroying the party from within.
Their actions before, during, and after the 2023 general elections stand as irrefutable evidence of sabotage, insubordination, and a total departure from party loyalty.
If PDP is to regain the trust of Nigerians, it must expel these actors now, without hesitation.
The G5—comprising Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and repented Seyi Makinde (Oyo), entered into open rebellion against the PDP in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections. Cloaked in the garb of “zoning justice” and “Southern presidency,” they turned their backs on the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and actively undermined his campaign.
Rather than resign from the party to pursue their interests honourably, they remained within PDP ranks to exploit its structure and future while simultaneously plotting its downfall. It was a classic case of eating from the same pot they defecated in.
The damage they did was not just electoral, it was moral, strategic, and ideological. Let us be clear: the G5’s betrayal cost PDP the presidency in 2023. Their refusal to support the party’s flag bearer fractured the PDP base, created confusion among loyalists, and handed strategic states over to opposition parties, including Abia state. It was not a protest, it was an ambush.
They courted rival parties, held clandestine meetings with APC leaders, and some allegedly received federal favours while masquerading as “aggrieved PDP members.” By every standard, this was anti-party conduct—sustained, deliberate, and detrimental. Yet the party looked the other way.
What is even more disturbing than the treachery of the G5 is the lily-livered response of the PDP’s leadership structures, especially the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT).
Faced with glaring acts of sabotage and public declarations of disloyalty, these organs have chosen the path of cowardice, inaction, and dangerous silence. The NEC, which ought to be the party’s engine of discipline and authority, has behaved more like a spectator, paralysed by internal fears, complicity and political miscalculations. The BoT, once the moral compass of the PDP, has also failed to rise to the occasion.
Their inaction has emboldened the G5 and demoralised millions of loyal party members nationwide. Leading to the stepping-aside of some of us founding members.
One wonders: what exactly is the NEC afraid of? What does the BoT gain by tolerating betrayal? When will they choose the party over personal alliances?
Fast forward to 2025: the G5, now post-governorship power brokers, remain as loud and lawless as ever. They have not recanted their actions. They have not shown remorse. Instead, they continue to ridicule party leadership, dismiss party processes, and position themselves as kingmakers of their own selfish agenda.
The 2027 elections are not far off, and already these men are making noise about aligning with other political formations to “teach PDP a lesson” again. This is not speculation; this is fact, based on their own utterances and recent political moves. Some of them have openly declared intentions to work against PDP’s presidential ambition. Why should a party carry its saboteurs on its shoulders?
Discipline is the lifeblood of any political organisation. No entity can survive if it rewards rebellion with silence and punishes loyalty with neglect. The G5 have defied every call for unity, reconciliation, or party supremacy. They speak of “respect,” but give none. They talk of “fairness,” yet exhibit raw entitlement. They want “loyalty” and give none. What message are we sending to our grassroots supporters and loyal members who have toiled for the party without reward? That treachery pays? That you can defile the house and still sit at its head table?
The PDP must choose: survival or suicide.
To survive, it must exorcise the ghosts of the G5. The party must initiate disciplinary proceedings against these men, in line with its constitution and code of conduct. The National Executive Committee must find its spine. The Board of Trustees must rediscover its moral voice. Let them be expelled, so the healing can begin.
This is not vengeance, it is necessary justice. Expulsion will send a clear message to all members, both current and aspiring, that the PDP is not a sanctuary for blackmailers and traitors. Let no one invoke reconciliation when there has been no repentance.
Let no one preach unity where there is continued sabotage. Let no one appeal for patience when the house is burning. The G5 are no longer just errant members, they are political mercenaries.
They betrayed PDP in 2023, and they are preparing to do worse in 2027. Expelling them is not only justified; it is overdue. But the bigger shame lies with the NEC and BoT, the two bodies that have the authority, but not the courage, to act.
Their inaction is complicity. Their hesitation is betrayal. It is time to put an end to this appeasement of political terrorists in our midst. For PDP to reclaim its vision, rebuild its base, and reenergize its followers, it must clear the rot within its ranks. The G5 must go, now.
