
GOMBE NCSU OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO MEMBERS
The Gombe State Council of Nigeria Civil Service Union has given members of the Union scholarships and honoured its past leaders with Awards purposely to appreciate their contributions to the growth of the Union
The event which took place on Saturday 27th September, 2025 at the premises of School of Nursing Conference Hall in Gombe , was witnessed by the Head of Civil Service of Gombe State Alhaji Ahmed Kassim who was represented by the permanent secretary, Establishment and Service Matters, the National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday who was represented by the National Vice President North East Comrade Mamman Buka, others present at the occasion are : the National Treasurer Comrade Saad Mohamed Abubakar, the General Secretary of the Union, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, the former National Treasurer of the Union Comrade Bawa, NLC Chairman, Gombe State Council Comrade Yusuf Bello, his TUC counterpart, and all the State Chairmen and Secretaries from State councils in North East Zone of the Union
The Head of Civil Service, commended the State leadership of the Nigeria Civil Service Union for organising the programme to assist members who are undergoing academic programmes in tertiary institutions while honour done to the past leaders is testimony that their efforts and contributions to the growth of the Union are acknowledged and celebrated.
It is noteworthy, therefore to work in partnership with Trade Union in order to share part of their visions so that Public Service as an institution will continue to play its traditional and statutory roles of formulation and implementation of government policies for the benefit of the populace.
The National President, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday appreciated the Gombe State Council leadership for reinforcing the essence of trade Union administration which is to come up with ideas and programmes that will not only better the lots of members but will equally bring them closer so as to make them have sense of belonging in the union activities.
Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday who is also the National Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC opined that, there is urgent need to focus more on the capacity building and empowerment of members of the Union, hence , the State Council on Thursday organised women empowerment/ training programme which is a replica of master trainer’s programme that was organised by the National Headquarters of the Union and took place in Abuja sometimes ago, it is a cheering development that Gombe State Council replicated the empowerment training programme and therefore admonish our women members to always represent us well at all Labour outings and make use of the training they have all acquired.
In his address of welcome, the State Chairman, Gombe State Council, Comrade Abbas Muhammad wholeheartedly welcomed the Head of Service, National leadership and State Councils to the programme , he disclosed that the twin programmes were organised to sustain the legacy of building human capacity and motivating leaders that have served the Union diligently so as to encourage the upcoming leaders and members of the the Union in the task of leadership and to encourage them to remain committed to the growth of the Union.
The State Chairman further stated that the programme will build confidence, trust and cohesion between leadership and membership in the Union
In his own remarks during the programme, the General Secretary, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga reminiscent on the activities of the Union over the years and submitted thus ” Historians will tell you how best to guage our future by adopting what we call historical barometer in shaping our future: i.e we must be able to use our past and find a nexus with today so as to plan for the future.
“On the strength of the above statement of fact, the initiative of the Gombe State Council leadership of NCSU needs to be commended and should be a clarion call to other leaders on how best to consolidate on the efforts of our past leaders so as to make them feel fulfilled.”
According to the General Secretary, ” the initiative of Gombe State Council to help members’ education with scholarship is well appreciated and it is a good idea that will reduce the financial burdens of our members,in the pursuit of their educational attainment .
“Respected Comrade Leaders, Nigeria Civil Service Union has come of age being the first Trade Union before Federal Republic of Nigeria was born, the Union is now 113 years old , born on August 19th, 1912, hence, we must guide the Union jealously.” he admonished
” It is our collective responsibility to bequeath United Union to upcoming generation so that the legacy of our forefathers will continue to be cherished.”
It is very auspicious at this juncture to appreciate the National leadership of the Union at different organs under the National President of the Union, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday, who is also the National Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who has continue to provide leadership with sense of responsibility and ability to navigate the Union for a resourceful benefits to.members.
it is very expedient and imperative to reiterate at this moment that the National leadership of the Union will continue to uphold the mission and vision of the Union so as to sustain the advocacy, the Union started with , over 113 years ago, by the grace of almighty God we shall not fail. he stressed.
