A group known as Crusader for Peace and Good Governance has berated the Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa for allegedly keeping mum over the death of the state-owned Sunshine Queens goalkeeper, Elizabeth Johnson.
Johnson died on Saturday after training with other members of the team in preparation for Nigeria Women’s Football League tie.
In a statement by the coordinator of the CPCG, Ayo Laniyan, on Tuesday, the group said the government’s silence four days after the death of the keeper was unfortunate and unfair.
The group described the action of the government as irresponsible and inhuman and discouraging to other footballers of the state government clubs.
The statement read in part, “The Crusader for Peace and Good Governance condemns in totality the action of the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, his deputy Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa for not making any condolence comment on the death of Elizabeth Johnson of Sunshine Queens four days after the death of the player.
“ The Sunshine Queens FC is owned by the government and it is expected of the state government or the Ondo State Football Agency, or even the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, to have made a condolence comment to the family of the deceased.”
