GTC: ODSG COMMITTED TO STRENGTHENING TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
…says it is key to confronting unemployment and building a robust economy
The Ondo State government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the State’s technical education sector, pledging sustained support for career-focused training and entrepreneurship to foster innovation, individual advancement and economic growth.
This assertion was made at the occasion of the 2025/2026 academic session matriculation ceremony of the Government Technical College, Owo.
Speaking at the occasion, Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami mni, represented by Barr, Adekola Olawoye SAN, congratulated the new students, even as he implored them to consider the opportunity as a great privilege occurring at this stage of their lives.
He encouraged them to strive for excellence by staying focused and committed, shunning any form of vices that could cause their enrollment to be terminated.
Reiterating the government’s commitment under the OUR EASE agenda, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Ogbeni Tayo Oluyi, said Ondo State would continue to encourage and fund technical education stating that it remains a core pillar of the administration’s developmental agenda.
‘’The lecture further validates the direction the state is taking in repositioning technical education as a strategic response to job creation and economic growth; It is thought-provoking and clearly articulates the critical roles of technical and vocational colleges serving as a veritable tool for job creation in Nigeria’’.
While commending the management team for the collective effort in sustaining their commitment to skill-based education, Ogbeni Oluyi pointed out that skill acquisition and technical education are recognized as powerful instruments for empowering youths, strengthening the workforce and stimulating sustainable livelihood across rural and urban communities.
Oluyi, especially acknowledged the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami mni, who in his personal commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development, sponsored some students through scholarship. He seized the opportunity to call on all well-meaning individuals, corporate organizations and non-governmental organisations, as well as community leaders to emulate this gesture to reduce youth unemployment and secure a collective future.
Delivering the matriculation lecture titled: Vocational Education in Technical Colleges- a Veritable Tool for Job Creation in Nigeria, Mr. Rotimi Akinwale PhD., cited the realities of the nation today, saying that Nigeria is in dire need of a massive shift towards technical, vocational and entrepreneurship education to combat the surging rates of unemployment.
He added that vocation is a veritable tool and any nation that wants to advance in economy must embrace technical education. While charging the students on the task ahead, he elaborated on the skills obtainable at the technical colleges, positing that they are not just subjects but are engines of industrial development.
Earlier in his address the Principal, Government Technical College, Evang., Tayo Ijabike, appreciated the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his continued support for technical education particularly, for the ongoing renovations of the college and payment of NABTEB examination fees for the students. In the same vein, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Adelami Olayide mni, for the gesture of awarding scholarships to One hundred students, saying that it reflects his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development in Ondo State.
Giving the Vote of Thanks, Vice Principal, Mr. Thomson Ayodele, appreciated the Deputy Governor for giving back to the indigenes. He gave kudos to the parents of the matriculants and assured them of the best.
Highlight of the occasion was the matriculation oats and prayers taken by the new students totalling, One Hundred and Seventy persons.
