HON. ABIODUN ‘DERIN ADESIDA: CHAMPION OF PROGRESS IN AKURE NORTH/SOUTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

The lawmaker representing Akure North/South Federal Constituency at the hallowed chamber, Hon Abiodun Derin Adesida has been a transformational leader, making significant contributions to his constituency. His achievements are testament to his commitment to empowering his constituents.
Adesida who is the Chairman House Committee on Federal Road Safety Commission( FRSC), has facilitated employment for over 100 youths, mostly in the Nigeria Customs Service, between 2007 and 2011
Additionally, he helped 30 Akure youths secure employment with organizations like the Federal Road Safety Corps in 2023. He also provided funds for youths and women to engage in various trades.
Infrastructure Development
He influenced the installation of a 330/132/33kV transmission substation worth N6 billion in his constituency.
This project, completed in 2017, remains unenergized but has the potential to increase electricity supply from 55MW to over 200MW. Adesida also installed a N150 million 132/33 KV Power Distribution Sub-Station in Akure South and distributed 30 transformers across Akure North and South.
Education
Adesida built classroom blocks and facilitated the construction of additional blocks, including an ongoing project at the School for the Deaf in Akure. He also sponsored a bill to upgrade the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, to a university.
The Federal College Of Agriculture Akure, established on 10 January 1957, has been a leading institution in training middle-level manpower in Agriculture. The proposed University will build on this legacy, offering degree programmes in agricultural sciences, engineering, and other related disciplines. When upgraded, it will benefit the students and also contribute to the nation’s agricultural development.
Agriculture
He distributed fertilizers to farmers in September 2024, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the agricultural sector.
Leadership and Recognition
Despite the criticism from some groups, Adesida has done well for the constituency, and the recall threat is unjustified.
People are now recognizing his efforts in the House as a testament to his dedication to the Akure North/South Federal Constituency. Initially, his achievements may have gone unnoticed, but now, his constituents are acknowledging his impact.
By sponsoring bills like the upgrade of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, to a university, Adesida has demonstrated his commitment to education and agriculture, key sectors for Nigeria’s development.
As his efforts gain recognition, his constituents are beginning to see him as a champion of progress, driving meaningful change in the Akure North/South Federal Constituency.
