
HOW IRESE, AAYE TRADITIONAL RULERS LED SUBJECTS TO FIX DAMAGED IRESE ROAD IN AKURE
Residents of Irese and Aaye Communities in Ifedore local government area of Ondo State have embarked on self-help project to fix damaged portions on the road linking the communities.
The people led by both traditional authorities, the Olurese of Irese, Oba Saka Ahmed Destiny and his Aaye counterpart, the Alaaye, Oba Peter Adeleye mobilised to the damaged portions that have nearly cut them away from the state capital on Saturday.
The self-help efforts did not leave residents of Irese road in Akure out as landlords and business owners at New City II, Ifesowapo and Aduralere Communities joined in the exercise.
The people mobilised granite chippings, bags of cement as well as hard cores to mitigate the effect of the bad road on their existence.
Speaking with newsmen, the Olurese, Oba Saka Ahmed Destiny said they could not continue to wait for government as they are the ones bearing the brunt.
The traditional ruler urged the state government to embark on the construction of the road to compliment the Onyearugbulem Flyover being constructed to add more value to the area and the state capital in general.
Similarly, the Alaaye, Oba Peter Adeleye emphasized that the efforts being put in place was carried out as a collective responsibility to ensure that their people are not cut off from the state capital.
He stated that construction of the road would not only boost economic activities but also enhance agricultural productivity, adding that residential estates have also begun to spring up in the area.
In his comment, a community leader, Engr. Olusola Olusegun Ojo described the situation of the road as worrisome, stating that many businesses have been affected as completed structures are not occupied due to the damaged portions.
He called on the state government to respond to the yearnings and aspirations of the people as viability of Alpha 3-D Estate constructed along the road is being threatened.
