
HOW ONDO NPC FEDERAL COMMISSIONER KEMI IYANTAN HIT THE GROUND RUNNING ON ASSUMPTION OF OFFICE
The task of ensuring generation of accurate data for planning at all levels of government led to the appointment of qualified Nigerians to man the National Population Commission.
Early this year, wife of a former Deputy Governor in Ondo State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Kemi Iyantan was sworn in alongside other commissioners by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
On assumption of office at the Commission’s office in Akure the Ondo State capital, the federal commissioner met with the management led by the Director, Mrs. Olayinka Chijioke.
The next was to hit the ground running. It started with a visit to the Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa with a promise to ensure that the commission plays significant roles in ensuring the realisation of the “Our Ease” programmes of the Aiyedatiwa administration.
Mrs. Iyantan further highlighted the synergy between President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Our Ease Agenda, stating that both policies aim at making life easier for the people and fostering sustainable development in Ondo State.
The Federal Commissioner expressed appreciation to the governor for his support in securing her appointment as well as his commitment to working closely with the commission.
Iyantan who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2024, stated that part of her visit was to discuss areas of collaboration between the commission and the state government.

She stressed that the NPC would work closely with the state government to generate vital population data that would guide investments in key sectors.
Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the National Population Commission (NPC) of his administration’s full support in carrying out its mandate, emphasizing the crucial role of accurate population data in effective governance and sustainable development.
He stated that governance is fundamentally about serving the people, and for any government to plan effectively, reliable demographic data is indispensable.
The Governor noted that the state government depends on the commission’s efforts to generate accurate population figures which would guide policies, infrastructure development, healthcare, and other essential services.
He further emphasized that his administration has no choice but to support the commission’s initiatives, as the government relies on its findings to make informed decisions that will benefit the people of Ondo State.
“The work of the National Population Commission is indispensable. As a government, we depend on this initiative, and we will support you within the resources available. We need comprehensive data on population distribution in terms of age, location, and other demographic factors to properly structure our policies and budget allocations,” he added.
The governor urged the commission to ensure that its data collection process is thorough and accurate, as it would serve as a foundation for making strategic developmental decisions in the state.
Similarly, the Honourable Federal Commissioner for Ondo State in National Population Commission, Mrs. Kemi Iyantan held a strategic meeting with Deputy Chief Registrars in the 18 local government areas with a charge to be dedicated for efficient service delivery.
Mrs. Iyantan said government and the people are expecting much from them in terms of generation of accurate data.
She stressed that the task of achieving the set targets of the commission is not just a collective responsibility but a factor that would guide government investments in the land and the people.
The Federal Commissioner frowned at indolence and warned that all staff of the commission must justify their appointment with the federal government.
She assured that the government of President Bola Tinubu is prepared to create an enabling environment for them to carry out their duties, warning those who may not fit in to choose the exit door.
Similarly, the State Director, Mrs Olayinka Chijioke encouraged the Deputy Chief Registrars to step up monitoring of the Registrars in the local government areas.
She appreciated the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Kemi Iyantan for convening the meeting with the Controllers, expressing the hope that it would assist proper coordination of the commission in the state.
The meeting provided opportunity for the DCRs to present report of activities in their various local government areas and expressed the readiness to play their parts in achieving the set targets of the commission.
The federal commissioner and her team did not stop at that as she led visits to media houses in the state with a view to collaborating with them for effective advocacy that would gear up the orientation of the people on the need to cooperate with the commission for effective planing by the government.
The visits took the team to Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, Fresh FM Radio Station, Glow FM, Nigerian Television Authority, Radio Nigeria Positive FM, The Hope Newspapers and the OSRC Media Group comprising the Television, Orange 94.5 FM and Sunshine 96.5 FM Alalaye.
Speaking with newsmen at the end of the visits which took the Ondo NPC team no fewer than 14 days, the federal commissioner, Her Excellency, Mrs Kemi Iyantan assured that the commission would provide enabling environment for the staff and other stakeholders to partner for efficient service delivery.
