INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL-CHILD:
ONDO STATE HAS ACHIEVED GIANT STRIDES IN GIRL-CHILD DEVELOPMENT – SPECIAL ADVISER ON GENDER, FALANA
The Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Gender Matters, Chief(Mrs) Olamide Falana has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for giving priority to issues affecting the girl-child across the state.
The governor’s aide who spoke in a statement personally signed by her on the occasion of the 2024 International Day of the Girl-Child said the present administration has always justified its place in promoting the gender and creating platforms to protect their interest.
According to Falana, Governor Aiyedatiwa has been providing the required resources to ensure that they get what they deserve in areas such as Health, Security, Education, among others.
In her words, “today, I felicitate young girls on the commemoration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl-Child. It is indeed worthy of celebration not just with mere words but because as a State we share in the glories of positive advancement on matters affecting the girl child in line with other societies around the world.”
“As regards the investment in the Girl-Child, It is a systemic process that requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders to ensure that they are protected, enlightened and can conveniently thrive wherever they find themselves.”
“The Governor, Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration has been doing so much for young girls and is willing to do more in many areas such as Health, Security, Education and other areas to ensure they get what they deserve.”
“We make bold to say that the Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa advertently focuses on developing young ones in the state, but he pays particular attention to the Girl-Child and we appreciate him immensely for it.”
“Education is one aspect that this government does not take with levity, as Ondo state has deliberately ensured that there is consistent payment of WAEC fees for both male and females, but it is significant for girls because when a girl child goes through secondary school and is able to graduate, earning the certificate grants her the opportunity to go higher in educational pursuit and other climes.”
“Similarly, the government ensures adequate investment in the quality of education given through quality educational structures, well renovated buildings and good staff to enable them to compete favorably with their counterparts.”
“Recently in the health sector, Ondo state ranked highest in coverage of our young adolescent girls for the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) vaccination across the country, which earned us applauds from donors and the International communities. This is significant because as a State we can be rest assured that they will not be at risk of having Cervical Cancer when they grow thus, securing their health at an early stage and maintaining their wellness in the society.”
“In the aspect of Security, our girls can now go to bed with their eyes closed, because currently the kind of system that enables prevention and peradventure an incidence occurs, a viable rehabilitation program is available. This is made possible through the Agency against Gender Based Violence in charge of the state response to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), through this Agency they are assured of security, legal services, shelter as well as speedy trial so as to avoid them being traumatised due to long trial periods.”
“As regards to response to Gender Based Violence, the State has an ongoing sensitization programme to help people report cases and get help and a toll free line to enable the process of rapid response even as we look forward to bridging the gaps within for a more effective and efficient service delivery.”
“Part of our progress story is the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between an NGO and the State government for a deployment of mobile application towards preventing GBV and reporting cases as it may arise. More collaboration are underway.”
“Lastly, another iconic stride from this administration, is the recent appointment granted young ladies by Governor Aiyedatiwa into positions as Special Assistants, the implication of this is that these leadership roles opens their minds to bigger opportunities, encourages their peers to stay focused and enables them to continue in that part that would open opportunities for higher positions in the future”, Falana stressed.
“As a society, let us be encouraged to keep doing more at various levels we find ourselves even as we move back to times when the society caters for girl’s wellbeing.”
“To our young girls, please imbibe tenets of hard work and protect yourselves against vices and abuses so as not to fall victims, the Special Adviser added.
