The Vice Chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State, Prof Olasebikan Fakolujo has commended the Varsity’s Chancellor, Pastor(Prof) Anthony Adegbulugbe for taking the lead in rewarding hard work and excellence.
The Vice Chancellor who was delivering his speech at the 16th convocation ceremony of the institution said the Chancellor began to display a high degree of generosity to outstanding students with donation of cash rewards at the 15th convocation ceremony held in 2024.
Prof Fakolujo emphasized over 40million naira has been committed to the cash rewards for the year 2024 and 2025.
In his words, “at the convocation ceremony held on December 6th, 2024, our Chancellor demonstrated exemplary generosity by awarding a total of 17,250,000 naira to outstanding graduands”.
“One million naira to the overall best graduating students, five hundred thousand naira each to first class graduates and two hundred and fifty thousand naira each to best graduating students in select programmes who did not attain First Class Honours”.
The Vice Chancellor stressed that the Chancellor had also made available the sum of 24million naira to be awarded to outstanding graduands.
“In like manner, at today’s convocation ceremony, a sum of twenty-four million naira is to be awarded to outstanding graduands in the categories highlighted above”.
“For this generosity and many more, the university is very grateful to our dear Chancellor, Pastor(Prof) Anthony Adegbulugbe for encouraging our students to attain excellence”, Prof Fakolujo emphasized.
The Vice Chancellor also used the opportunity to acknowledge the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the immediate past Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Joash Amupitan for rewarding excellence.
“Most notably, we express heart-felt gratitude to Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, OON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for her landmark endowment of 50million naira for the best female graduate of this university in perpetuity”.
“The fund yields an annual award of 5million naira inspiring generations of female students towards excellence”, Fakolujo added.
In his speech, the President of Christ Apostolic Church, Nigeria and Overseas, Pastor Samuel Oladele charged the graduands to seek the face of the Lord as they forge ahead in life.
In his words, “I charge you to prioritise God in all that you would do. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths. Your degree is not merely a reward for hard work but a divine responsibility to make a positive impact wherever the Lord gives you the privilege to be”.
“Let your education be your tool of service and your faith your guiding compass”, Pastor Oladele added.
Addressing the gathering, the Chancellor, Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe charged the graduands that their success would not be measured by titles and possessions but by their contribution to humanity.
“Ground your life in faith. As Hebrews 11:1 declares, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Let your faith guide your choices and give you courage to pursue worthy dreams”.
“Strive for competence. Excellence commands respect across all borders. Continue to learn, adapt and grow. Uphold Character, Integrity remains your most powerful credential. Let your word be your bond,”Adegbulugbe emphasized.
“Embrace enterprise. Turn knowledge into value and value into service. Live for the good of your nation and humanity,” the Chancellor stressed.
Adegbulugbe who is also the Chairman of Green Energy International Limited assured that the Chancellor’s Cash Awards will be a continuous exercise, noting that it is an initiative to instituted to recognise academic distinction and moral excellence.
“These awards will honour the Overall Best Graduating Student, the Best Graduating Student in each College and the best student in every discipline. They represent an investment in excellence and a reinforcement of JABU’s culture of merit and hard work”, the Chancellor added.
The high point of the event was the presentation of prizes to outstanding graduands with symbolic presentation to Best Graduating Female Student, Blessing Temitope Agboola and few others.
A total of 871 graduands comprising 729 first degree and 142 Post-Graduate Scholars were celebrated at the convocation ceremony.
