The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, has clarified that gas and not a bomb exploded in the state on Tuesday morning.
He made the clarification during his visitation to the scene of the incident.
Dikko, who spoke in Hausa, also confirmed that four persons were dead.
It had earlier been reported that many were feared dead in the explosion near a private school on Aba Road in Sabon Gari, Kano.
The Commissioner said rescue workers were working to remove people trapped at the building where the explosion occurred.
Meanwhile, reactions have trailed the incident on social media.
A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, said, “The unfortunate incident in Kano was a gas explosion, not a bomb blast, the Kano State Police Commissioner has confirmed.”
@DejiAdesogan tweeted, “#Kano State Police Commissioner Sama’ila Dikko visited the scene of the explosion in Sabon Gari this morning and claimed it was a Gas Cylinder Explosion and not Bomb Blast that affected a primary school with several casualties recorded.”
@The_Calvary1 said, “I stay in Sabon Gari, Kano. The explosion shook our house. Students died. This country won’t be the end of us. We didn’t commit any crime being Nigerians.”
