LABOUR DEMANDS ONE MILLION NAIRA MINIMUM WAGE
…As NCSU Urges Federal Government To Tackle Security Challenges
The National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday has advocated for N1 million Naira as minimum wage considering the pauperish condition of workers in Nigeria as a result of harsh economic situations.
The National President made this assertion on Thursday 4th July during 81st NEC meeting of the Union held at the Green minds hotels, Utako in Abuja Federal Capital Territory.
According to him , the precarious situations in the country requires absolute attention of the Federal government to address the present economic predicament.
According to him, the current economic realities has eroded and rendered valueless the N70,000 minimum wage ;the purchasing power of Nigerian workers and entire populace has drifted to zero level.
Illustrating the economic value of N70,000, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday said that N70,000 minimum wage translates to N2,333 per day and N483 Naira per person, per day for a family of five people in Nigeria, which is absolutely an economic enslavement.
According to Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday who is also the National Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress disclosed that the Organised Labour Movement in Nigeria has resolved to begin appropriate engagement with the Federal Government on the urgent need to review upward the current minimum wage which is no more tenable.
It is a known fact that removal of subsidy on petroleum and electricity have further impoverished Nigerians in all economic ramifications because this is the initial areas where Federal Government was performing social responsibilities roles but since its removal Nigerians have been battling for economic survival.
In these subsidies removal theory (fuel and electricity) where are the funds saved as claimed by the Federal Government?
On the security situation in the country, the National President of NCSU challenged Federal government and security agencies to re-strategise and pump more money to security agencies so as to enable them work without any despair.
He further opined that security is the work of all and sundry but most importantly, any bad eggs among the security architecture should be tracked and shown the way out of the system and make erring officer(s) face the music.
Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday admonished the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to be distracted with the 2027. Political survival, rather, the federal government should focus on how best to sail Nigeria out of the present economic doldrum.
Part of the highlights of the NCSU 81st NEC meeting decisions were the appointment of the substantive General Secretary in person of Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga for the Nigeria Civil Service Union, approval for the promotion of 84 staff of the Union to their next appropriate Grade levels, payment of National minimum wage to all staff of the Union and other major impactful policy decisions on the Union.
