The audition, held at the theatre hall of the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre, in Ado-Ekiti drew aspiring actors, cultural enthusiasts, and filmmakers from across the state and beyond.
The film project, which aims to chronicle the rich history and heroic legacy of the Ekiti Parapo warriors, has already gained significant traction with the endorsement of several notable Ekiti monarchs. Among the royal dignitaries who lent their support are the Alara of Aramoko , Oba Adegoke Olu Adeyemi mni and the Owa Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole II, OFR, JP.
Alara of Aramoko, Oba Adeyemi praised the initiative as a bold step toward preserving and promoting the region’s historical heritage. The Owa Ajero, on his part, acknowledged that some individuals had also visited him to seek his blessing for same project.
He however expressed his delight that Governor Biodun Oyebanji saw the necessity for a thorough and professional documentation and that he personally commissioned the duo of Lateef and Bimpe Adedimeji to handle the project based on their antecedent.
Oba Adewole expressed confidence in the ability of the couple and praised the involvement of the Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy under Prof Rasaki Ojo Bakare, the Honorable Commissioner.
He prayed for the project team and promised to further assist in getting more facts about the Ekiti Parapo War history.
Speaking at the audition venue, Prof Bakare expressed delight at the overwhelming turnout. “Today shows that Ekiti people are ready to tell their own stories. We are not just looking for actors — we are looking for proud custodians of our culture who can bring history to life on screen,” he said. Also addressing the huge crowd who cheered his presence and that of his wife, Mr Lateef Adedimeji urged them to put their best while assuring them that they would all be involved in the project in one way or another.
Participants included young actors, veterans of the Yoruba theater practice, and traditional dancers, all eager for a chance to contribute to what promises to be a landmark film for the Yoruba-speaking world.
” The royal endorsements have not only legitimized the project but also boosted local interest and participation. Our monarchs’ support shows this film is not just entertainment — it is an act of legacy ”said Prince Adebanji Adelusi, the State’s Director of Culture.
The production of Ogun Ekiti Parapo film is expected to begin in a few months and will highlight the resilience, unity, and resistance of the Ekiti people during the late 19th-century wars against Ibadan forces led by Aare Latosa.
According to an authoritative source, more Ekiti monarchs would still be visited in order to get their royal endorsement and also listen to their perspective of the Ogun Ekiti Parapo story.
With the strong backing of the community and royal institutions, the project is poised to become a milestone in indigenous historical storytelling, Adelusi revealed.
