MINISTER, EFCC BOSS INSPECT 753-UNIT ESTATE RECOVERED FROM EMEFIELE
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, alongside the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has inspected a 753-unit housing estate recently recovered and confiscated from former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Salisu Haiba, said this on Wednesday in a statement.
According to the statement, “Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, alongside the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Olanipekun Olukoyede, today led a joint team on a physical site inspection of a confiscated housing estate comprising 753 housing units.”
Dangiwa revealed that the Ministry would begin immediate technical assessments on the buildings. “The government of the day is serious about fighting corruption,” he stated, highlighting the plan to conduct structural integrity tests before completing and listing the units for sale to Nigerians via the already active Renewed Hope Portal.
He hailed the EFCC’s efforts, describing the seizure as “one of the most significant in the nation’s history within such a short period,” and encouraged Nigerians to trust the anti-graft commission. “The government of the day is serious about fighting corruption,” he reiterated.
EFCC Chairman Olukoyede addressed public scepticism surrounding the estate’s existence, pointing out that earlier images broadcast to Nigerians were only aerial shots. “The essence of this visit is to show that it is real,” he said, reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to transparency and accountability.
The estate is now set to be integrated into the Federal Government’s National Social Housing Programme, forming part of President Tinubu’s broader agenda of affordable housing and responsible governance.
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Olukoyede formally handed over 753 housing units at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
The estate, which spans 150,500 square meters and includes duplexes and various other apartment types, was recovered following a final forfeiture order granted by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, on December 2, 2024.
