
NEPC DONATES COCOA SEEDLINGS TO ONDO FARMERS TOWARDS BOOSTING PRODUCTION, EXPORT VALUE
…As COFAAA Global President Adeola Adegoke expresses hope of increasing production from the current 90,000 MTS to 150,000 MTS by 2027
The Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria, Ondo State has expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Ondo State Office led by Mrs Iyabode Abe for the donation of cocoa seedlings to the association members in the State.
It is an initiative that will increase cocoa production and export value in Ondo State as number one cocoa producer in Nigeria.
This laudable effort has guaranteed cocoa farmers prosperity with better trainings on sustainable cocoa production and management provided by NEPC in order to guarantee higher survival ratio of the donated cocoa seedlings when transplanted from the nurseries.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Ondo State, Mrs Toyin Oni enjoined cocoa farmers to make use of the cocoa seedlings provided by NEPC to contribute to the state cocoa production and expressed her appreciation for the large turnout of cocoa farmers at the event held at CFAN hall in Akure the state capital.
Also, the Coordinator of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Ondo State Office, Mrs Iyabode Abe reaffirmed the vision of NEPC under the leadership of the CEO, Mrs Nonye Ayeni to promote non-oil export commodities through deliberate support to increase production and export value of such commodities like cocoa which Ondo State is the highest producer in Nigeria.
The coordinator promised to double the number of seedlings to be donated in the next cocoa production season if the cocoa farmers maintain good sustainable transplanting practices on the seedlings provided.
Mr. Adelusi, the Director of Plantation who represented the Secretary of the Ondo State Cocoa Revolution Agency, Mr. Omolakin spoke about the various interventions of government to support the expansion of the cocoa production landscape in the state despite the challenges of the urban expansion which has impacted negatively on the availability of land for cocoa production.
He expressed joy on the spike presently experienced in cocoa prices at the international market.
The National President of CFAN and the Global President of the Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa(COFAAA), Comrade Adeola Adegoke thanked the NEPC Akure office for setting the right direction through incentivizing the cocoa sector in the state by making farmers to produce more cocoa thereby contributing to their prosperity that will transform into more export value.
He promised that Ondo State cocoa farmers will increase the state production from the current 90,000 MTS to 150,000 MTS in the year 2027/28 cocoa season with the good gesture of the Agency in the State.
