
NIGER DELTA SPORTS FESTIVAL TRIALS HIT OWO, OKITIPUPA
The selection process for the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival took centre stage on Wednesday at Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State.
Aspiring volleyball, football, and basketball players turned out in their hundreds, undergoing rigorous screening, with the best athletes selected for the final trials set to hold in Akure, the state capital.
Members of the State Liaison Committee, alongside respective coaches, oversaw the selection process.
A committee member, Akintunde Akinsemola, emphasised that the state was determined to scout for the finest talents, regardless of their location.
Akinsemola expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout, noting that it was a testament to the effectiveness of the selection process.
*”What I see here makes me happy. Our youths are actively participating in sports, and we are ensuring that the best will represent us in Akwa Ibom.
“I believe that by the time we hold our final trials, we will have assembled the strongest team for Akwa Ibom,”* he said.
Similarly, trials were also conducted in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
Dr Henry Babatunde, who led the team of officials, commended the participants and assured them that only the best would be selected.
The selection exercise continues in Akungba-Akoko on Thursday.
The Niger Delta Sports Festival is scheduled to hold in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, from April 1 to April 9, 2025.
