NIGERIA CIVIL SERVICE UNION APPOINTS GBENGA OLOWOYO AS GENERAL SECRETARY
The 81st session of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Nigeria Civil Service Union has approved the appointment of Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga as the 7th substantive General Secretary of the 113th years old Union (being established in August 19th 1912) with effect from 3rd July, 2025.
Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga untill his appointment was the acting General Secretary of the Union, alongside his appointment, not less than 84 staff of the Union were promoted to appropriate Grade levels.
This information was disclosed by the National President of the Union Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday who is also the National Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress during the National Executive Council meeting held at the Green minds hotel, Utako Abuja Federal Capital Territory while speaking with cross section of journalists at the venue of the meeting.
In his words, “as a Trade Union Leader and Trade Union movement, l believe in setting the pace, in order to let Government side knows that we are conscious of workers welfare without any agitation, hence , the leadership of the Union has started the implementation of minimum wage payment to all staff of the Union across board”
The National President promised to sustain the tempo of improving the working conditions of workers in the Union as well as , ensure that members of the Union are not disappointed in their expectations at ensuring that all issues bothering on members working conditions are improved upon with appropriate engagements with both Federal and all tiers of governments.
The newly appointed General Secretary started his career as a Public Servant in the Public Service of Ekiti State before he joined the services of the Union in 2003
Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga hailed from OSI-Ekiti in Ido/ Osi local government Area of Ekiti State, he attended the famous Christ School Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti now (EKSU) where bagged Bachelor Degree in English (BA Ed), He bagged Masters in industrial and Labour Relations from University of Ado Ekiti and Post Graduate Diploma in journalism from international institute in journalism Abuja (llJ ).
Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga has held many positions of responsibilities in the Trade Union movement such as state ex-officio of NLC in Ondo State, Chairman, education committee in Ondo State council of NLC, member media and publicity committee at State councils where he has served and State secretary Joint Public Service Negotiating Council ,Trade Union Side in Ekiti State council, co- Secretary Organized Labour in Ekiti State .
Also, he has served variously as Head of Department; of Women Gender and Youth, HOD Education/ international Affairs and HOD Administration and Establishments at the National Headquarters of the Nigeria Civil Service Union .
He was appointed Ag General Secretary of the Union in july 2024 and currently the National Secretary, Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Trade Union Side untill his recent substantive appointment as General Secretary, Nigeria Civil Service Union.
Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo is a Fellow, Corporate institute of Administration ( FCIA) and Fellow institute of management and public Administration (FIMPA) among other professional bodies
He has attended many Local and international industrial and Labour Relations conferences and workshops, Public Administration and Management conferences .
He is happily married to Mrs Olowoyo Temitope with children.
