ODIEC RELEASES GUIDELINES DECEMBER 2023 LG ELECTIONS
Ondo state Independent Electoral Commission, (ODIEC) has released guidelines to stakeholders in the state for the conduct of the forthcoming Local government elections in December 16 2023
The Chairman of the commission, Dr Igbekele Aremo made this known during a stakeholders meeting in the commission’s headquarters in Akure.
Dr Aremo stated that the commission had kick-started the process of the election by issuing three hundred and sixty days notice for the conduct of the election to political parties and other stakeholders.
The ODIEC Boss noted that in order to ensure that democracy does not suffer at the grassroots, the commission gave out guidelines to stakeholders on the conduct of the forthcoming council election.
The ODIEC Chairman said the commission has issued forms EC009A, EC009B, EC009C, EC009D, EC009E for the positions of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councilors to stakeholders.
The commission, he said is expecting interested registered political parties to collect forms at no cost from ODIEC.
He mentioned that the conduct of party primaries shall be observed by the commission as part of its statutory responsibilities from April 10 to June 10, 2023.
Dr Aremo noted that campaigns by political parties will commence by July 17 to midnight of December 14, 2023 in compliance with the electoral law.
He commended the state government for supporting and empowering the commission, stressing that the commission is poised to conduct free, fair and credible election.
In an opening remarks, ODIEC Administrative Secretary, Mr Igbekele Jatuwase emphasized the importance of grassroots governance in Democratic dispensation with reference to Ondo State.
One of the stakeholders and the Chairman, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, Sir David Ologun said the meeting showed that the commission is prepared for the conduct of local government election and urged stakeholders to reciprocate ODIEC gesture.
