
ODSG, BEDC AND BEOL REACH AGREEMENT TO REVAMP ELECTRICITY
Ondo State Government, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC)/ Benin Electricity Ondo Limited (BEOL) are strategizing to revamp electricity in Ondo State as both parties agreed to work out plans, fix dates for a committee to be inaugurated and submit its report within one month from 29th May, 2025.
This disclosure was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power, Engr. (Dr) Johnson Alabi, following the crucial meeting between the ODSG and BEDC which held at Heritage Hotel, Akure.
The communique signed by Engr Johnson Alabi on behalf of Ondo State Government and Engr Ogunleye on behalf of BEDC reads as follows that:
o There is an urgent need to increase energy availability In the state from the current supply in the region of 30MW to about 100 – 200MW
There is a need for intervention in the power distribution sector In the state, particularly in the area of the distribution network to harness the benefits of the new Electricity Act.
o The state government is proposing Franchising arrangements with BEOC/BEOL which will involve the state government and other Interested Investors.
o There is need to set up a joint committee comprising the state government, the State Regulatory Bureau, BEOL and BEDC, with the Terms of Reference of promoting energy access, availability and affordability for the good people of Ondo State to look into the proposal to achieve the foregoing.
o The state government will protect the interest of the distribution license holder in the state
in the Franchising and other similar arrangement towards delivering affordable energy to the people of Ondo State.
o The focus of the Committee would be on franchising arrangements for the underserved and unserved areas and other related measures to achieve energy growth and development.
o The electricity regulatory bureau was tasked to issue a communication on the timeline for the establishment of the committee and the outcome of their task.
