ODSG HAS QUALITIES TO TAKE THE LEAD IN DIASPORA REMITTANCE, SAYS OLOGBESE
The Ondo State Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Prince Boye Ologbese, has re-affirmed that the State possesses required qualities that position it as the pride of the SouthWest region.
Prince Ologbese made this remark after the just concluded 2-day Summit on Global Africa Diaspora Symposium (GADS) 2023 with the theme: “Building stronger connections between Africa and the global diaspora” held in Abuja.
The summit according to Ologbese, was scheduled at an auspicious moment whereby the State government under the visionary leader of Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, CON is determined to change the narrative of Ondo State from core civil service to a business hub and has commenced plans to achieve it.
Commending the organizer of the event, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Prince Ologbese said the commission has done appreciably well at ensuring the Diaspora Development Agenda of Africa is brought forward.
He added that the State can also encourage more direct Diaspora Investment Initiative (DDI) given that diasporans have seen the effort of the State government in terms of social networking, regional security outfits code-named Amotekun, attention to tourism and other viable areas.
“DDI could play a critical role in making the dream a reality; the idea of our Diaspora City theme: Live in Europe, in Akure, sets in motion a boost in the tourism business for a global standard to increase Internally Generated Revenue”, he said.
The Commissioner expressed delight that the summit, having stressed on various mechanisms for positive and attainable results, will give room for the Ministry to remain focused and re-address areas that need attention, so that it’s goals and objectives can be achieved.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Chairman NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri- Erewa said the summit was aimed at fostering new and stronger Global Diaspora and African connections as well as provide opportunities for Africa to engage with it’s diaspora and build upon the first African Diaspora symposium which held in Nairobi, Kenya, 2020.
Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa stated that the summit whose sole purpose is to maximize partnerships and collaborations, was designed to focus on key strategic solutions in Science and Technology, Tourism and Culture, Health, Agriculture, Education and more.
She enjoined all to make the most of the event saying “use this platform to further galvanize necessary support and attention of Africa Diaspora in the accelerated development of the African continent”.
