ODSG TO COLLABORATE WITH REA-NEP ON RENEWABLE ENERGY EXPANSION
The Ondo State Government has expressed its commitment to partner with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), to boost electricity access across rural communities through sustainable off-grid solutions.
During a courtesy visit to the REA headquarters in Abuja, the Special Adviser on Power to the Governor of Ondo State, Engr. (Dr) Johnson Alabi, emphasized the state’s readiness to actively engage with the agency.
He noted that the purpose of the visit was to better understand the NEP’s initiatives and to show support for the programme’s Head, who is an indigene of Ondo State. Dr. Alabi indicated that plans are underway for a follow-up meeting involving the State Governor.
“The state has followed the progress of NEP with great interest and is eager to benefit from its interventions,” Alabi said.
“Ondo State urgently seeks collaboration, especially in mini-grid installations, to bring electricity to underserved and unserved areas.”
He assured the REA team of the state’s preparedness to provide a conducive environment for seamless project implementation, including adequate security and institutional support.
Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Femi Akinyelure, Head of the NEP, said the visit offered an opportunity to review key ongoing projects relevant to Ondo State.
These include the interconnected mini-grids, the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) project, and the eligibility criteria for subnational participation in the programme.
Discussions also covered project components, progress under subnational initiatives, capacity evaluations, feasibility studies, and available technical assistance for state-level implementations.
According to a statement signed by the Press Officer to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power, Debbie Funmilayo, the meeting marks the first formal engagement between the Ondo State Government and the REA, and signals a strong foundation for future collaboration. Dr. Alabi concluded by reaffirming the Ondo Government’s full support and preparedness to drive the sustainability of the partnership.
