
ODSG TO PARTNER UNIMED FOR COMMUNITY NURSES AND MIDWIVES TRAINING
Ondo State Ministry of Health has concluded plans to collaborate with the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo for the take off of community nursing and midwifery programme in the State.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka disclosed this during a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of the UNIMED, Prof Adesegun Fatusi and his team in his office.
He lamented the blow the migration of the nurses and midwives has dealt on the health sector all over the country and said there was need to proffer a lasting solution while also informing that the nursing and the midwivery council has given approval for the training of 150 student community nurses and midwives
Dr Ajaka said the requirements for application for the training is a minimum of 4 credits compulsorily in English language, mathematics, Biology, physic or chemistry in WASSCE, NECO and NABTEB at not more than two sittings.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Ministry, Bisi Lawani, the Commissioner briefed that the programme would be a two year programme and would commence this month (March 2023) and it is primarily an intervention programme for human resources in the Primary Health care system in the Local Government Areas.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharm. (Mrs) Folukemi Aladenola opined that the intervention is important in order to save the system and the future while also promising that the ministry would continue to partner more with the University of Medical sciences to have a well rounded health sector in the State.
Pharm Aladenola briefed that the forms are available on line on www//ondocnm.com.ng with the payment of Ten thousand naira for the application form
Giving the details of the collaboration, the Director Nursing Services, Dr (Mrs) Alice Ogundele explained that they already have Mr Governor’s approval and that of Nursing and Midwifery Council of for the programme and the venue for the programme would be the midwifery section of the former state schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the State which now belongs to University of Medical Sciences.
She explained further that the human resources that would train the community nurses would come from both Ministry of Health and the University community
The Vice Chancellor, University of Medical Science, Prof Adesegun Fatusi lauded the collaboration saying the University Community was eager to partner with the Ministry on Community Nursing and Midwifery training.
” This programme is for impacting the lives of our people especially the womenfolks in the State. What you are asking for is possible and we are eager to collaborate”
Prof Fatusi therefore requested for more partnership between the Gown and the Town in the health sector, particularly in the aspect of Health Research in the State.
