ODSG TO SEAL OFF MERCHANT PREMISES CAUGHT ADULTERATING PRODUCE ITEMS
The Ondo State Government has vowed to seal off merchant premises found to be adulterating produce items, particularly cocoa beans, as part of its efforts to ensure quality control and maintain the state’s reputation in the global market.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. Leye Akinola, made this known while being briefed by the Permanent Secretary of Forestry/Produce sub-sector, Chief Segun Odusanya, on the latest seizure of adulterants by the Ministry’s zero-tolerance task force.
Engr. Akinola emphasized that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is concerned about the rate of adulteration, which demarketed the country’s produce globally.
He warned that any merchant found engaging in such practices would have their operating license withdrawn.
Chief Odusanya, while displaying the seized adulterants, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to zero tolerance for adulteration.
He stated that the seized items would be destroyed, and the merchant would face sanctions and be required to sign an undertaking not to engage in such activities again.
“As the highest producer of cocoa in Nigeria, the state government is determined to protect its reputation and that of the country from being tarnished by unscrupulous individuals” he said.
