
ODSG WARNS AGAINST ILLEGAL MOVEMENT OF LOGS, FLITCHES
The Ondo State Government has issued a warning against transporting illegal logs, emphasizing the need for compliance with regulations aimed at promoting sustainable forestry practices and boosting the state’s economy through value-added wood products.
Chief Olusegun Odusanya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry ( Forestry/Produce sub-sector), issued this warning while meeting with foresters and uniformed personnel at the Ministry’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
The PS added that there is a prohibition on illegal logs, stressing that the state government prohibits the movement of illegal logs within and out of the state.
He also emphasized the need for officers to block all loopholes where revenues are being wasted, ensuring the state’s revenue base is boosted through collective responsibility.
According to a statement by the Head of Media and Public Relations in the ministry, the Permanent Secretary noted that the government aims to protect forests while promoting value-added wood products, aligning with sustainable forestry practices, charging officers to deliver quality services, avoid sharp practices, and work diligently and avoid unprofessional practices.
He affirmed his commitment to implementing Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration mandate through revenue generation and forest protection.
He sought foresters’ cooperation to achieve ministry goals and promised to address challenges raised during the meeting.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Joseph Adeyekun, Director of Forests Management, appreciated the Permanent Secretary for organizing the meeting, which provided an opportunity for roundtable discussions to address problems and improve work practices
Similarly, Mrs. Oluwayemi Johnson, who is an Assistant Director, Urged adherence to forest laws to ensure protection and revenue generation, highlighting the ministry’s dual responsibilities to preserve and protect the forests as well as revenue generation.
