
OKA- AKOKO HAS A LEGACY WE MUST BUILD AND PROTECT – GOV. AIYEDATIWA
The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has restated government’s commitment to bolster communal institutions on legacies of impact and inclusion that would improve the economy and social activities across the state.
In his address, Governor Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, appreciated the Olubaka and entire Oka community for upholding the traditional and cultural values.
While emphasizing the importance of the festival the Governor mentioned that his administration recognises the critical role of Cultural institutions and communal bonds in fostering social stability and development.
“Oka Day is more than a cultural celebration; it is a reminder of where we are coming from, a reflection on where we are, and a rallying call for where we want to go together”.
“We remain committed to working with all communities including the great people of Oka-Akoko to improve infrastructure, support education, create opportunities for youth, and ensure that every citizen of our state can thrive”.
“Oka Akoko stands tall in the history of Ondo State as a town known for resilience,
intellectual prowess, unity, and industriousness. Many of your sons and daughters have distinguished themselves in various fields – government, business, arts and academia. This is a legacy we must protect and build upon” he said.
“Already, we have ongoing interventions across Akoko South West and the broader Akoko axis in roads, rural electrification, healthcare, and school upgrades. I want to assure you that more will come; We are determined to leave behind a legacy of impact and inclusion”.
Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the Oka Development Union and all the organizers for their dedication towards the success of the Oka Day saying, the event reflects unity across all quarters of the community regardless of political or social affiliations.
He seized the opportunity to call on traditional institutions, youth organizations, and community leaders to continue to champion peace and development even as he charged them to embrace dialogue over conflict, collaboration over competition, and unity over division.
The Olubaka of Oka- Akoko, the Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Yussuf Adebori Adeleye OON, expressed gratitude to God Almighty saying “Today’s event marked the 38th edition of the annual Oka Day celebration that commenced precisely on August 6th, 1988; As the initiator of this noble event, I am happy to note to note that Oka-Day Celebration has come to stay as a formidable binding force in the community”
Oba Adeleye thanked the Ondo State government Security Agencies for providing the enabling environment for the remarkable Oka-Day 2025 Ceremony while he acknowledged the leadership role of the Executive Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and also congratulated him for his landslide victory in the last gubernatorial election.
“On behalf of Oka Akoko sons and daughters home and Diaspora, I thank His Excellency, for the on-going construction of Ayegunle lwaro Oka road. This strategic road will reduce
travel time and save cost.
“I wish to put on record the efforts of the various traditional age groups whose contributions have gone a long way to reduce the activities of criminals and where arrests were made handed over to the police for proper investigations”.
Oba Adeleye appreciated the chiefs and community leaders, and enjoined them
to continue to collaborate with the security agencies. Adding that as patriotic citizens, the security of lives and properties are the responsibility of everyone.
The oka day was not just a display of cultural pride but a reflection of the deep rooted tradition of the town fostering the bond of brotherhood among the people.
According to a statement signed by the information officer in the ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Debbie Funmilayo, other dignitaries present were: the Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom, Senator Jude Ipinsagba who was represented by Jon Waare, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye Otolorun, the Olukojus, the Chairman Akoko South West LGA, Hon Ayo Ajana among others.
