OLOSI OF OSI-EKITI, OBA STEVE ALABI HONOURS UNIONIST GBENGA OLOWOYO, EIGHT OTHERS WITH AWARD OF RECOGNITION
The Olosi of Osi Ekiti in Ido /Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Adegboyega Steve Alabi has berated the level of truancy and absenteeism among secondary school students in Nigeria
The Kabiyesi raised this observation during the conferment of Awards of recognition to the renowned unionist and activist, Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo and eight others as a result of their contributions to human and societal development.
The programme took place at the community’s town Hall where the monarch observed that since huge investment have been made by government and well meaning individuals to upgrade standard of education across the country, it will be a disservice for the students and pupils concerned to stay away from school.
His Royal Majesty, who is a first class Oba in Ekiti State , therefore appealed to parents to take personal interest in the education of their wards by ensuring regular school attendance.
Part of those honoured is the General Secretary of the Nigeria Civil Service Union Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga who is also the National Secretary of the joint National Public Service Negotiating Council and a member of the Central Working Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Others are, pharmacist Peter Bunmi Ejimokun, Mr Obafemi Babatunde Adediran both as Permanent Secretaries, Mrs Henrietta Bola Badejo, Registrar Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State, Professor Ayodele Oluwaseun Ajayi, Newly promoted as Professor in the Federal university of Oye Ekiti,( FUOYE ), Professor Iyabo Simon-Oke, newly promoted as Professor in Federal university of technology Akure (FUTA).
Others include Barrister Oliwaferanmi Ekundayo, first class Graduate, Nigeria law school, Miss morenikeji Hephzibah Alowooye, first class Graduate Adeleke University Ede and Mr Emmanuel Olalekan Fakuade, first class Graduate, FUTA.
His Royal Majesty, Adegboyega Steve Alabi king disclosed that this honour may be the first time such a thing will be happening in this town, “we are not just celebrating the individual concerned, we are celebrating our Jerusalem for producing this number of distinguished sons and daughters.”
His Royal Majesty reminiscent that ” it is on record that Osi Ekiti, in Ido Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State had legacies that are yet to be surpassed by many communities” “we have been known to be pacesetters in achievements for others to follow. Our town(Osi Ekiti) had equally been in the hub of civilization, Trade, industry, commerce, education and other social changes around this area, in days yonder, this community was a centre of great culture and development that was the envy of neighbours” Kabiyesi declared .
“As l congratulate those being honoured today, l challenge them not to rest on their oars, l am aware that your elevation and attainment came by dint of hardwork, discipline and solid character. I will therefore enjoin you to continue doing those things that brought you to the top”.
In his words, there are still higher heights ahead and you shall get there by the grace of God, l also implore you not to forget your Jerusalem, as God lifts you more and more, remember to let OSI EKITI feel the impact of high placement” he counselled.
The Kabiyesi challenged the youths across the country to emulate their counterparts being honoured to work towards greatness” l am looking forward to a time when our youths will be at the commanding heights in several sectors in this nation and worldwide
Oba Adegboyega Steve Alabi congratulated those being honoured, the entire Osi both at home and diaspora (“lule loko”), Olosi- in- Council and Osi progressive Union (OPU) world-wide for putting the event together
In his welcome address the Global President, Osi Progressive Union (OPU) ACM Oludare Fadogba rtd fsi, JP commended the exalted Chiefs male and female for their unalloyed contributions to make Osi Ekiti peaceful due to their invaluable contributions to support His Royal Majesty, the OLOSI OF OSI EKITI KINGDOM which has a great historical kingdom, blessed in both natural and human resources,primly located as a salt to the world.
In his words, “Let us continue to embrace selfless love, tolerance, perseverance, personal sacrifices and resilience that would assist us all to contribute immensely to the growth and development of our community’s quest for greatness forward ever to expand the frontier of opportunities on its apogee to the glory of God and humanity in general”
The Awardees appreciated the community for counting them worthy of recognition and promised to be patriotic and think of the community in their daily engagement, the Awardees congratulated His Royal Majesty on his ascension to the stool of his forefather and his progressive mindedness.
Dignitaries across the country witnessed the ceremony Odofin of Osi Ekiti, both male and female High chiefs from the community, high profile sons and daughters from the community, Chairman NLC Osun State Council, Comrade (Chief) Dr Christopher Arapasopo, NCSU State Chairmen from Ekiti and Osun State Councils Comrade Ayodeji Aribisala and Oluwaseyi Oyinlola, state Secretaries Ekiti and Osun State Councils as well as the state Auditor Osun State Council Comrade Agboola A. among other top dignitaries.
