OLOWO CONDEMNS KILLINGS, VIOLENCE IN OWO, APPEALS FOR CALM
The Olowo of Owo and Paramount Ruler of Owo Land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, has condemned in strong terms, the act of violent disorderliness which claimed lives in the kingdom.
In a statement signed and released by his Special Assistant Media, Sam Adewale, Oba Ogunoye said that “it is with heavy heart that I address the people of the kingdom in light of the tragic events where some members of the kingdom lost their lives at the hands of yet to be identified callous persons and evil groups”.
His Majesty disclosed that the senseless violence was deeply sorrowful, and that his thoughts and prayers were with the families and friends of the victims of the unfortunate incident.
Kabiyesi recalled that stringent steps were taken in the past to nip this kind of dastardly acts in the bud, but that it was rather unfortunate that some persons or groups were still bent in turning the peaceful atmosphere of the kingdom upside down. Oba Ogunoye emphasized that such acts of violence were not only an affront to the individuals directly affected, but also a strike at the very heart of the society, which will not be allowed to fester.
His Majesty pointed out that he understood the emotions that arose in a desire for quick justice, however urged everyone, groups, families and the society at large to resist the instinct to take the laws into their hands, as anger will lead to further violence and chaos, which could further endanger more lives and destabilize the kingdom.
Alayeluwa admonished that we should collectively face this monster of cultism in our society and that parents must not shirk their responsibilities over their children, so that our younger ones will have their foundation in righteousness, as against what we have at the moment. In order to overcome this challenge, we must allow the law enforcement agencies investigating this grievous incident to do their work, as they are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice, thereby ensuring the safety of everyone in the kingdom, and that this kind of bloodletting should never occur in our land.
His Majesty therefore implored the people of the kingdom to resume their legitimate businesses as the joint Security Agencies have confirmed the restoration of peace and tranquility and to deal decisively with evil doers. Kabiyesi assured that the peace and development in the kingdom will never be allowed to be truncated by individuals and groups.
Conclusively, Oba Ogunoye thanked the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his quick response to this challenge, and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelaide, mni, who had to be on ground to monitor the situation in Owo, as well as the Heads of the Security Agencies in the State for thier dedication to duty in respect of this challenge.
