OLU FALAE: CELEBRATING AN OUTSTANDING ADMINISTRATOR AND TRADITIONAL AUTHORITY AT 85 By Emmanuel Bardi
His Royal Highness (Oba) Oluyemisi Samuel FALAE (CFR), the Olu of Ilu Abo and Gbobaniyi of Akureland has turned 85 (eighty five) years on mother-earth.
A product of Igbobi College,Lagos, the premier University in Nigeria, that is University of Ibadan and the prestigious Yale University in United States of America where he bagged Senior School Certificate Examination (ssce),B.sc and M.sc Hons in Economics respectively.
This illustrious son of Akure whose father was a farmer rose to fame through service to humanity and dedication to duty with integrity.
He joined the Federal Civil Service as a civil servant and later became a Permanent Secretary at the tender age of 39.
He was later made the Managing Director of the defunct Merchant Bank of Nigeria and left to become the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),he was subsequently appointed Minister in the Ministry of Finance under the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).
He resigned to join partisan politics when he contested for the highest office in Nigeria (Presidency) under the two-party system of National Republican Convention(NRC) and Social Democratic Party(SDP) in 1991/1992.
He contested for this exalted office under the SDP though the political programme was truncated by the then military administration of Babangida.
Also in 1998/1999 when the ban on political participation was lifted he vied for the same office, this time around it was a multi-party system under the military leadership of General Abdulsalam (rtd), there were Alliance for Democracy(AD),All People’s Party(APP) and the People’s Democractic Party(PDP).
He ran under the joint ticket of AD/APP. Though he lost to former military ruler,General Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd).
Yet,this man of great political valour and substance didn’t go to bed,he has since been contributing immensely to the socio-political development of this nation.
I join the numerous admirers of this great achiever,an administrator of high repute,a seasoned farmer to say 85 hearty cheers.
Baba,I wish you more fruitful years on earth. Happy birthday to you sir. Igba odun ,odun kan ni sir….. …… Ki ade o pe lori, ki bata o pe lese, ki irukere o di abere oooo Kabiyesi……….
