OLUMUYIWA ADU MOURNS LATE FOOTBALL COACH CHRISTIAN CHUKWU
…Hails his roles in soccer development
Dr (Barr.) Olumuyiwa Adu (Cubana) has sent his condolences through his Media Council to all the families, friends, fans and associates of the Late Christian Chuwkwu, the former Nigerian football player and coach who died in the early hours of Saturday in his country home in Enugu at the age of 74.
The late Christian Chukwu, affectionately known as “Chairman,” was a prominent figure in Nigerian football — both as a player and as a coach. His significant legacy in the sport will forever remain indelible.
The soccer icon captained the Nigerian National team between 1974 and 1980, lifting the African cup of Nations trophy after a 3-0 victory over Algeria in the final of the 1980 football tournament.
The Late coach had led Nigerian teams to many FIFA- organized competitions and secured spectacular victories.
He was later recognized for his contributions to sport development with a national honour of the Member of the Federal Republic the Federal Republic (MFR).
Dr Adu who is a football lover and promoter recalled the golden era of Christian Chukwu and described his passing as shocking, hailing him as a great footballer, team builder and stabilizing force.
Dr Adu is deeply touched by this sudden demise of an internationally recognized footballer and coach but takes solace in the supremacy of God over mortality.
He therefore prayed for the repose of the departed soul and comfort for his bereaved wife and children.
“My heart and prayers are also with his loved ones at this period of great grief over the irreparable loss. May God console us all.” Dr Adu submitted.
