Come to Kiribo – The Cradle of Apoi
By Allen Sowore Esq.
Greatness often emerges from humble beginnings, forged through dedication and hard work. Following the passing of my father, Mr. David Omoremilekun Sowore, my brother, Omoyele Sowore, proposed the idea of establishing a scholarship programme in his memory. We wholeheartedly embraced it, but none of us imagined how quickly it would grow into something extraordinary.
On January 1, 2025, this modest initiative, which began with scholarships for underprivileged students in our serene community of Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State, will welcome visitors, participants, and fans from around the globe, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, and Singapore.
The programme’s rapid evolution is a testament to the creativity and determination of the young organizers and pathfinders who have expanded its scope with innovative events and competitions. From marathons and football to table tennis, swimming, boat regattas, and cultural dance showcases, these additions have made the celebration truly remarkable.
This year, we proudly unveiled a stunning 500-meter wallboard designed to provide easy access to the picturesque Kiribo Lake, a hidden gem featuring two captivating islands at its heart. Kiribo, aptly nicknamed the “Village of Big Dreams,” is steadily emerging as a sought-after tourist and resort destination.
Reflecting on last year’s marathon, I can’t help but smile. I was determined to come first, but as a true Omoluabi, I kept waving and acknowledging cheers from my friends along the way. Little did I know that enthusiastic hand-waving could slow down my pace! Before I realized it, my fellow competitors had sped past me.
This year, by God’s grace, I’m ready to claim first place. That’s why I’m inviting you to join us for #ComeToKiribo.
Mark your calendars for January 1, 2025— The Awards Night and 20th Anniversary of the Sowore Foundation- this next edition promises to be unforgettable!
